Day in the Life of a Business Owner - On Holiday (America Edition) 🇺🇸

Spoiler alert: we’re still working over here.

The early wake-ups don’t change on the other side of the world, if anything, they’re earlier. Thanks, time zones.

Slow mornings before a full day of exploring with a side of emails.

Terrible coffee to get me through the day (IYKYK - Melbourne has ruined me).

And just as our day winds down here, mine is only just getting started because Australia logs on at 7:30pm my time.

The one joinery detail that makes this kitchen feel custom. 🔨

The recessed shelf with timber batten backing adds warmth, texture and depth, while still being beautifully functional.

Think of it as the icing on the cake.
The jewellery to the finished look.
That final layer that makes everything feel polished and complete.

Sometimes the smallest design details do the heaviest lifting.

If you’re thinking about adding texture and depth to your kitchen with timber battening, swipe to see a few ways you can use it in your own space.

You are way too smart to be making these renovation mistakes!

1. Designing without a plan
Because you already know, getting the foundations right sets the whole project up for success. A pretty kitchen means nothing if the floor plan makes you do a three-point turn to open the fridge. Layout first. Always.

2. Following trends instead of how you live
Trends fade, functional design stands the test of time, and you strike me as someone who’s in it for the long game.

3. Underestimating the budget
There are always a few surprise costs when building or renovating. That’s just part of the fun. But you? You’re savvy enough to keep a little contingency sum tucked away like the financially responsible king/queen you are. (10–15% extra)

4. Hiring the wrong professionals
A cheap fix usually ends up being a very expensive lesson. The right professionals don’t just make things look good; they make sure the whole thing actually works. Your future self is already giving you a standing ovation.

5. Not planning enough storage
You are definitely not the person realising post-build that there’s nowhere to put the vacuum, air fryer, Christmas decor, dog food, and 47 reusable shopping bags. No, no. You planned for that. Because good storage isn’t boring, it’s the backbone of a home that doesn’t make you rage.

Save this for your future send it to someone currently designing off vibes alone.

FAQ: To Architect or Not to Architect

The short answer - it depends on your project!

Understanding what we do is the key to seeing the value that we bring. We don’t just draw plans or pick pretty tiles and furniture - we are problem solvers.

Think better layouts, smart decisions and less “oh no” moments and most importantly we are your advocate!

From elevation to ex*****on 🛁✨

This is your reminder that bathroom renovations don’t start with tiles.

They start with a slightly obsessive architect lining up grout joints like it’s a competitive sport.

Niche height? Debated.
Vanity proportions? Adjusted 14 times.
Tap placement? Emotionally invested.

Because when we say “trust the process”, we mean:
we’ve already thought about it so you don’t have to.

Drawing → tweaking → building → standing in the finished space pretending we’re surprised it looks this good.

Would you have trusted the drawing? 👀

5 Things We’re Going To See More Of In 2026 👀

Hot take: good design doesn’t chase trends - It responds to how we actually live.

Here’s what we’re seeing more and more clients asking for in their renovations and new builds:

✨ Separate studies
Work from home is here to stay. The dining table office era? We’re gently closing that chapter.

✨ Multigenerational living
Because it really does take a village. Thoughtful floor plans can create privacy and connection under one roof.

✨ Dump zones (the chic kind)
Functional storage, mudrooms, and dedicated drop spaces. Organisation isn’t boring, it’s sanity-saving.

✨ Functional outdoor spaces
Covered entertaining areas, outdoor kitchens, and proper seating zones. In Australian homes, outside is part of the brief.

✨ Spaces that bring joy
Reading nooks. Hobby rooms. A window seat with good light. A space that exists purely because it makes you happy.

Good design in 2026 isn’t about what’s trending. It’s about spaces that reflect how you want to live.

Save this for your future build or renovation. Your floor plan will thank you.

Design Terms - Doors 🚪🚪

You know those words that get thrown around during a renovation or building project and everyone nods like they understand? - Let’s fix that.

Welcome to the start of our Design Terms Series breaking down architecture jargon and the building process in plain English so you actually know what’s going on in your own home.

First up: Doors!

- Hinged doors (your reliable OG).
- French doors (classic, social, needs space).
- Pivot doors (dramatic, confident, slightly bougie).

Because choosing the right door isn’t just about looks, it affects layout, clearance, furniture placement, budget, and how a space functions day to day.

Part 2 is sliding doors. And yes, there are more types than you think.

Save this for later or comment “DOOR” for our free PDF.

Unpopular Opinion: Warm fairy lights are the only way to go ⚠️

I know, I know this one might ruffle a few tinsel feathers,
But warm lights give festive, cosy, and warm.
Cool white? It’s giving dentist’s office, not Christmas vibes.

Your tree deserves to glow, not glare.
