*Painting Starter Kit*
What do you need to get started when painting a space?? Most of the time we know we need "paint and a brush" but here we've made a full list of what we find really handy to have at the start of any painting session:
1. Tin of paint - for ceilings we use FLAT CEILING PAINT, for walls we use LOW-SHEEN INTERIOR WALL PAINT, and for trims we use GLOSS or SEMI-GLOSS trim paint. All tinted to the colour we want for each space and surface. Depending on the prep required, we also use UNDERCOAT PAINT (but more on that next time!);
2. Paint brush - at least one for cutting in! There are multiple sizes and multiple angles of brushes to choose from. If in doubt, ask your local paint shop rep (eg. );
3. Paint roller - by this we're referring to the roller frame and typically a foam roller head for painting large, flat, surfaces like ceilings and walls. You can get smaller rollers for the flat parts of your door and window trims too (again, more on this next time!);
4. Paint pole - to attach to your roller when you need to roll surfaces up high (ie ceilings or the higher sections of your wall);
5. Paint tin opener - to open your tin of paint. If you don't have one, you can also use a flat head screwdriver, a small chisel, or even a teaspoon!;
6. Paint stirrer - to stir your paint with thoroughly. Again, if you don't have one, you can use other things like a (clean) wooden rod as we have before π
;
7. Something to scoop and pour your paint with - we use a kitchen ladel but you can also use paint pots or other purpose-built products from your local paint shop;
8. Paint pot - to put your paint in when you're cutting in;
9. Paint tray and liner - to put your paint in when you're rolling; and
10. Paint tape, plastic, and cloth - to tape and cover up areas you want to be extra careful not to get paint on. If you do get some paint spills then that's what the cloth is for!
