THIS WEEK ON YOUTUBE...

I spent over $200 on plant gear and I put together an honest review of everything I bought from the Leafy brand. We go through three product types: the pots I love to use, their PON mineral mix, and the trellises.

I paid for all of this myself. No gifting, no sponsorship. I'm an affiliate, but that came after I was already spending my own money on their products.

The full review also covers what to use instead if you're not in Australia, because most of you aren't, and I didn't want you walking away with nothing.

Full video and Leafy brand affiliate link are in the comments.

I've had this spider plant living purely in LECA clay balls for close to five years. I've chopped it up more times than I can count, and it just keeps coming back stronger. Right now it's packed in so tightly it's practically begging me to repot it. There's something satisfying about a common plant absolutely thriving on neglect. Comment below if you want to see me attempt the repot without breaking the pot.

They said alocasias rot in LECA.
I've heard it so many times. And I get it, I have experienced it myself! Alocasias have a reputation, fussy, dramatic. So susceptible to rot if anything is even slightly off.

But this is my Alocasia Dragon's Scale living in pure LECA with a wick. No moss, no soil, no compromise. And those roots are doing exactly what roots are supposed to do.

Semi-hydroponics did this.

This is what 30 days in the long method looks like on a Philodendron Congo Nuclear and I am still not over it.

Those brilliant white roots are brand new growth. And those strange little bumps along the stem? Root primordia. The very earliest stage of root development, the cells that will become roots.

This plant is part of my mystery plant box series where I ask nurseries to send me whatever they like, I transition everything to semi hydroponics, and I come back at 30 days to show you the results, warts and all.

This one came from Enliven Plants and I have to say, thank you Enliven, because this plant has been an absolute joy to work with.

A dedicated Foliage Focus video is coming and I want your questions in it. Drop them in the comments โ€” dilution rates, what I add alongside it, anything you have wondered about. I will answer as many as I can. The more you send, the better this video gets.

I moved my Alocasia into LECA without washing the roots. Soil still attached, no soaking, straight in.

10 days later, no leaf drop, no yellowing, no stress signs.

I have a 10-day update and a 2-month update on YouTube showing exactly how this method plays out over time. Write ROOTS in the comments and I'll send you both links.

Alocasia repotting. I love a good repot. The idea is always that the plant continues to grow well but sometimes that doesn't happen. I tackle my moss/leca plant in this video. Write the word repot in the comments for a link to the full video.

This week on YouTube ๐ŸŒฟ

This week on YouTube it is a full Alocasia repotting session. I have four plants that have been living in different semi-hydro setups for months, my Alocasia Maharani in the moss and LECA glass vase, another in mineral substrate and LECA, and two Alocasia Red Secrets, one in LECA and one in Pon. They are all getting repotted and I am sharing exactly what the roots look like and where each plant is going next.

If you grow Alocasias in semi-hydro this one is worth watching.
Watch it here ๐Ÿ‘‡

My Alocasia Maharani in semi hydro is root bound in her sphagnum moss and LECA combo, so it is repotting time. I am also combining my two Alocasia Red Secret...
