Searle x Waldron Architecture is looking for an Architect or Experienced Graduate to join our Melbourne studio.

We are a design-focused, award-winning practice based in St Kilda, working across a diverse range of public, civic and community projects. Our studio values thoughtful design, collaboration and creative problem solving, with a strong focus on architecture that enriches community and context.

We are looking for someone with:
• 5–7 years professional experience
• Strong Revit skills (essential)
• Rhino experience (a bonus)
• Strong design, documentation and detailing skills
• Experience coordinating consultants and project teams
• Excellent communication skills
• Interest in public, civic and community focused architecture
• A collaborative, curious and proactive approach

The role offers the opportunity to work closely with the Director and project team across all stages of projects, from concept through to delivery.

SXWA Director, Suzannah Waldron, will chair the Urban Design category for this year’s
Victorian Architecture Awards.

Our studio’s work is grounded in the civic role of architecture - and it’s exciting to see this reflected across this year’s entrants, with projects exploring how urban infrastructure and public realm shape the way Victoria's cities and regions are experienced and shared.

Jury presentations are open to the public and on tomorrow (Sat 21 March) at Swinburne University

Really enjoyed being part of the conversation at the International Women’s Day breakfast panel last week.

The discussion was fun and honest - exploring leadership, practice and the many different ways women are shaping careers in architecture. Speaking as both a solo director and a solo mum, I’m constantly reminded that there isn’t one model for practice - or for life.

My takeaway: we often have more agency than we think. Designing a career can be a lot like designing a project - imagining what's possible and finding ways to make it happen.

Thanks to my fellow panellists and Yolanda Vega, to for guiding the conversation, and to the Vic Gender Equity Committee for bringing it all together.

Adapting a heritage tennis club for an equally accessible future, this project plays with local stories, materials and typologies to create a new companion pavilion.

Winners of 2025 Timber Design Awards - Best Commercial Building!

So proud to see the timber design excellence, innovation and expertise of our team recognised at last week's - with Northern Memorial Park Depot recieving the Excellence in Timber Design - Commercial Building Award.

Northern Memorial Park Depot uses mass timber to rethink the traditional industrial truss - creating a sustainable, empathetic and biophilic workplace for people in emotionally challenging roles.

20 unique prefabricated GLT trusses, connected by CLT stairs and walkways provide a diversity of work, collaboration and social spaces for the Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust's horticulture, burial, and operations teams.

Alongside timber's positive sustainability, carbon, wellbeing, acoustics, fabrication and construction impacts - it also reflects our client GMCT's core values to design infrastructure for longevity and sustainability.

Super lovely to share some of our design ideas, civic thinking and public projects at the Contemporary Australian Architects Speaker Series in Canberra last week.

Some highlights across a busy few days included exploring the Australiana Art Deco architecture of the building which hosted the talk, Shine Dome walks, Enrico Taglietti drawings including of St Kilda Library (one of my local favourites), and mentoring SONA students.

IDEA Awards - Community Award Shortlist ♡

It's an honour that NMP Depot joins a small shortlist of projects for this year's Mark Robinson Community Award.

The award is named in memory of the late Mark Robinson, a dedicated advocate who actively promoted using one’s voice and resources to create a more inclusive and positively impactful design community.

This Operations Hub for the Greater Metropolian Cemteries Trust provides an empathetic and supportive work environment for staff in challenging roles who deal daily with grief and loss.
