There is something so appealing about vintage florals and the reproduction florals as well. They are soft and gentle, charming and sweet and very much missing in home now. I’m not saying you need a whole room full but a little can be utterly delightful.

Creating spaces outdoors that make your heart sing should be on all our agendas. This is where secondhand and vintages comes in to all its glory. An old bench or a couple of lovely old chairs and you’re well on your way. Find a spot that has dappled shade for hot days and sunny spots for balmy days and you cover most of the bases. Then add the plants you love what ever that may be. Then add the pretty and cozy bits. Pretty cushions, old ones work wonderfully well. A rug or two. A small table or crate for drinks and books and even a small jug of flowers. Yes you may have to bring the pretties in on inclement days but bring them out again when the sun shines and use these glorious spaces as often as possible. Share them with those you love. It may take a while to get these spaces the way you like them but isn’t that half the fun. A very worthwhile journey to my way of thinking.

There are always more ways to add a little vintage and secondhand charm to your home. Use your favourite pieces don’t hide them away. Add gifts from nature and piece by piece let home become your favourite place to be. Thrill all of your senses diffuse oils or scented candles. Soft woolen rugs to warm and make your sense of touch come awake. Make spaces a visual treat. Brew tea and coffee the old fashioned way. And let’s not forget soft music or perhaps open windows so you can hear the birds calling. Find the beauty in small moments and do it every day. It will give you so much to be grateful for.

Just because geraniums and pelargoniums work so well in upcycled planters and because they strike so easy that in no time you’ll be sharing them with family and friends. There are colours to suit all tastes and varieties to suit all gardens. A much loved old favourite.
