5,890 handmade bricks in 27 custom formats and 3 special colours. That's the magic that makes the Turnmill office building in Clerkenwell, London, both standout and fit in with the surrounding context.

The custom bricks were designed by architects to accommodate a stunning range of architectural details, and the three colours for the new version of Kolumba were inspired by the sandstone facades on the neighbouring 18th-century Session House.

Architects: Piercy&Co
Executive architect:
Bricks: Petersen Tegl Kolumba bricks in 3 custom colours K56, K58, K59, and 27 custom brick formats in the same clay

The striking metallic lustre of ALUSION™ Architectural Stabilised Aluminium Foam makes it a sought-after choice for external cladding. And it delivers a completely different expression during the day compared to night. Featured here at the EarthCam headquarters.

Did you know that ALUSION™ is lightweight, durable, 100% recyclable and made with up to 100% recycled content? And it's non-combustible, too.

The material palette at Journal Campus House was central to creating a building unique to Carlton. Red brick grounds the design, referencing traditional familiarity at the podium level, while perforated metal cladding and grey brick reference the area’s more institutional and commercial buildings.

While brick on the ground floor is hand laid, Brick Inlay delivers the upper brick facade. Robertson's supplied both the full bricks for the ground and matching brick tiles, and the Brick Inlay system to create the precast brick panels.

That's a key advantage of working with our team: you enjoy a seamless facade solution.

Antico Casale Cotto brick tiles are earthy and tactile, pairing perfectly with natural timbers, stone, glazed ceramics and metallics. They're equally as good on the walls and floor, as they are here at the Ballarat and District Trotting Club:

“The fact that I got to use the Antico Casale Cotto brick tiles in volume, at the front of the building, which gets lots of natural light, worked out to perfection. I’m really happy with that room, it’s so pretty. It grabs people’s attention when they come in, they love it,” Angela Bambino.

Petersen D91 bricks deliver a modern twist on an old workers' cottage in South Melbourne.

Cecilia Sanders, owner of .canvas.architects spent some time walking throughout the suburb, immersing herself in its eclectic mix of industrial warehouses, double storey terraces and weatherboard cottages to gain inspiration for the palette. Seeing a real mix, she wanted to keep it simple, but modern: incorporating shades of warm, neutral grey throughout, starting with the textured Petersen bricks.

"You just don’t get that tonal variation and the beautiful difference in colour that you get in Petersen bricks,” recalls Cecilia.

A varied palette of high-quality brick tiles, precast in complex patterns using Brick Inlay, injects joy and humanity into the facades of North Melbourne's Public Housing Renewal Program.

“The intent behind the facades is to humanise the buildings, because there are many people from many different backgrounds and that is humanity, sameness is not. So, we creatively maximised variety in them because humans have variety, we’re all different, and buildings should be too." Debbie Ryan, owner McBride Charles Ryan

The front cover features Villa in Vosselar in Belgium.

Glenn Sestig Architects has created a home with a collage of surfaces, clad in light-grey handmade Petersen Kolumba bricks (K53). The absence of familiar architectural features, like gutters, downpipes and even a front door, give this home a beautiful abstract feeling.

Horizontal lines dominate the look of the brickwork, courtesy of a wild bond with recessed bed joints and flush stub joints.

If this is the first time you've seen 33 Cremorne, you'd be excused for thinking that the whole facade was hand laid. And you're right, it does had a traditional brick aesthetic.

But it's all delivered with Brick Inlay using Rustic Tan brick tiles.

For Hassell, the facade had to read as solid masonry, and that intention shaped every decision, with one golden rule: Don’t expose the edge of the brick tile. Ever.

"We worked through every corner and every detail to make sure that you can never see the edge. Each of the window frames step back and steps into the windows. So, when you look up, it looks like solid bricks.”

Brick corbelled columns, stepped façade elements to manage expansion joints, and steel C shaped channels positioned between the brickwork maintained the appearance of continuous masonry.

Although new to using Brick Inlay, Ingrid reflects positively on the outcome: “I saw using a brick slip as a little bit of a risk when we started the process, we were really wanting to use a full brick, but I'm super happy with the outcome.”
