Another look at this ventilated cavity system now that the cladding is going on.

Upper corrugated cladding running down over the perforated cavity closer, with the WRB and cavity system behind it allowing the wall to drain and dry properly.

Good design is one thing — making it work properly on site is another.

Simple details that make a big difference long-term.

Design doesn’t always play out the way you expect on site.

This is how we’ve resolved this detail — balancing aesthetics with how the wall actually performs.

Ventilated flashing, WRB lapped in, and a clear path for moisture to drain and dry.

That’s the difference between a detail that looks good… and one that actually works.

What you don’t see is what protects the house.

Ventilated cavity ✔
WRB installed ✔
Drip edge directing moisture out ✔

Any water that gets behind the cladding has a clear path out — not trapped inside your walls.

Simple detail. Big difference.

The Details You Don’t See (Throwback)

Most people focus on finishes… but this is the stuff that actually matters.

At this junction — where the cladding meets the eave lining — moisture can easily get trapped if it’s not handled properly.

You won’t see this once it’s finished, but if it’s done wrong, it can cause problems later.

So instead of just closing it up, we’ve detailed it properly:

✔️ Perforated flashing to allow condensation to escape from behind the cladding
✔️ Aluminium drip edge to direct water away from the eaves
✔️ Designed to stop moisture tracking back into the structure

It’s not flashy — but it’s what protects the build long term.

This is where a lot of builds fall short… not because of how they look, but because of what’s hidden underneath.

Would you even think about something like this when building or renovating?

A finished project is one thing.

Hearing directly from the client after the job is done means even more.

This was a great conversation with Gabrielle following completion of her project at Tennyson Street.

From the start, the focus was on making the process as clear and smooth as possible — and delivering a finished result that she could be happy with.

We’re really proud of how this one came together and grateful to have been trusted to bring it to life.

Thanks again Gabrielle for the opportunity and for taking the time to share your experience.

Ross Street, Coburg – January Progress (Throwback)

Most people don’t realise this is one of the most important stages of a build.

We’ve just completed solid plastering through the existing home, and we’re now moving into plasterboard for the new extension and alterations.

Before we close it up, everything gets checked:

✔️ Insulation installed
✔️ Walls prepped
✔️ Electrical final checks done
✔️ Full site walkthrough with the team

Because once the walls are closed… there’s no going back.

Would you rather get this stage right, or push to finish quicker? Let me know below.

Every project — and every client — is different.

Renovations and extensions are complex by nature. Costs move, decisions evolve, and there are no shortcuts if you want things done properly.

What makes the difference is how those realities are handled.

This feedback reflects what we aim for on every project:
clear communication, honest advice, and a structured process that helps clients make informed decisions — even when things aren’t simple.

If you value transparency and want to be involved in the process, this is how we work.

Now that the detail is complete, here’s what’s happening at this junction.

At the base of the wall, we’ve resolved the transition between the plinth rail and the external cladding so the materials sit cleanly and predictably.

• A Blackbutt plinth rail forming a durable base element
• A 45° aluminium extrusion resolving the external corner without bulky trims
• Shadowclad cladding above with the matching external corner
• A 6.4mm shadow line to clearly separate materials
• A fine flashing detail used as a deliberate visual break at the junction

The focus here is clarity — consistent gaps, calm lines, and a junction that reads as intentional rather than patched together.

All moisture and condensation management sits behind the finish.
This post is simply about how the detail is resolved visually.

Most people only see the cladding.
This is the part they never see — but it’s what keeps the house dry for decades.

Today we’re detailing the condensation-managed cavity system where our cladding runs flush to the plinth, while still allowing the building to breathe.
• WRB performance membrane wrapping the structure
• Cavity battens creating controlled airflow behind the façade
• Custom flashings to stop water, not vapour
• All intersections clean, aligned, and architecturally sharp

It looks seamless and minimal on the outside —
but the science underneath is what makes it last.

Melbourne climate? Freeze → rain → sun → repeat.
This is how you beat rot, mould, swelling, & hidden moisture.

Clean lines are great.
Clean lines that breathe are better.
