STAIRS. Love them? Or not much so?⠀⠀
⠀⠀
To some, stairs are an unnecessary evil due to natural ground levels of the building block. Or as for us, that are currently planning our home renovation and had an initial outlook to keep the house one level. However, it would have left us with a compromised floor plan and too small backyard. So we made the decision to go upstairs to get a better flow and more living space. ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
So you have stairs in your home design... next question might be whether to hide them or show them off?⠀⠀
⠀⠀
For most this becomes a balancing act between design and budget. To ‘hide’ stairs behind a wall or build them in is often the lower cost option meaning you can divert saving into something you rather spend money on (unless you are a stair person). ⠀⠀
⠀⠀
Floating stair threads and metal risers have a minimal sleek look but often does attract higher cost. It is hard to favoring either as both options has its use depending of the overall design concept and what is more important to you.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
However which ever way you go... staircases take a big chunk of space out of the building footprint so you want to make sure you plan well so the space beneath or next to it doesn’t become an underutilized or dead space. There are so many great examples what this space can be used for and I reckon we might be onto a winner in our next design🍸🥃🍷 [hint hint].⠀⠀

In Pic 1 and 2 from our project we decided to dress it up alittle by putting in a glass panel on one side increasing the sense of space and openness☑️. Storage underneath the staircase was designed to be accessed from the garage☑️⠀⠀

Seriously, I am going Iso crazy or is it perfectly reasonable to feel smirkily satisfied that the rose bottle matches perfectly with the artwork? Trust me not only did it taste lovely but it looked so good against the marble penny rounds splash back. They say it is all in the detail. Cheers🍷

LOUNGE. From one multipurpose space to another, our continues to the lounge which is bathing in light thanks to the oversized window. Recycled brickworks and a Japanese maple are peaking through to make this a happy space for any lounger 🛋 gamer 🕹 or kid 👦🏼 for that matter (how I wish we had that second living room now in times of ).

FLEXI STUDY
Ok friends, this post may be more about styling and furniture selection rather than building but hear me out please 😇 This large study positioned on the ground floor near the entry also served as an organized dumping ground for all those shoes, school bags and jackets. As we love flexi spaces we opted for built in drawers, storage and hanging space rather than a built in desk so this room could also function as bedroom if desired. Sometimes it is what you don’t build that counts💁🏼‍♀️
