The Victoria University, Melbourne Australia Health Innovation Centre (HIC) Associated Works project represents a transformative reimagining of the Footscray Park Campus. This project goes beyond refurbishment—delivering a mature, progressive architectural response that supports VU’s distinctive “Block Model” pedagogy, which focuses on intensive study of one subject at a time.

At it's heart, the design cultivates belonging, community, and educational excellence. All while elevating underutilised infrastructure into dynamic, digitally-enabled, and human-centric spaces.

The Willsmere Park pavilion in Kew East is nearing completion. This exciting new pavilion features a community-focused sports and recreation facility that enhances health and wellbeing of the local community through an accessible, inclusive, and sustainable design.

Through considerable engagement with neighbouring properties and the broader City of Boroondara community, the pavilion discreetly nestles into the surrounding landscape, maintaining view lines to existing facilities and the wider parkland and retains as much of the existing vegetation and trees as possible. This is further reinforced through the distinctive use of rustic timber pole elements as an overt part of the architectural language.

By partnering with Boroondara Council, their Climate Action Plan and key strategic objectives have been incorporated into this innovative design.

Here's how we've made sustainability a stand-out in this project:

Smart Energy Solutions: Solar panels paired with a solar power storage battery ensure renewable energy generation and efficient usage. LED lighting and 5-star rated appliances further reduce energy consumption.

Eco-Friendly Materials: Sustainably sourced recycled timber and low VOC paints enhance the building's green credentials while promoting healthier indoor air quality.

Thermal Comfort: ComfortPlus laminated glazing, thermal insulation, and strategic building orientation minimize heat gain in summer and retain warmth in winter.

Water Conservation: On-site rainwater harvesting systems collect and reuse water, reducing reliance on external water sources.

Waste Reduction: Recycling the existing pavilion structure instead of demolition to preserve resources, this reduced construction waste.

Biodiversity Support: We designed the pavilion around the existing mature trees, minimising the need for offset planting. Offset planting was done with native species to support the local fauna.

This pavilion embodies thoughtful design that balances functionality, sustainability, and community needs.

The pavilion is set to open this April.

PROJECT UPDATE: Things are shaping up in !
La Trobe University has reimagined it’s Shepparton Campus, and construction is well under way.

Situated on Yorta Yorta Country, this regionally significant project marks an exciting new chapter for this campus and delivers new facilities that support greater Allied Health education and clinical training.

An Indigenous Welcome is front and centre at the campus, honouring the site’s heritage and embedding local culture. This meaningful garden was developed by Greenaway Architecture in collaboration Paul Herzich of Mantirri Design.

Together with Monash Health , we’re committed to delivering the care patients deserve.

Well-designed healthcare facilities have measurable positive outcomes, helping patients to recover sooner, improving patient and visitor experiences, and increasing staff effectiveness in their care.*

Spowers’ refurbishment of the existing mental health facilities for Monash Health saw considered upgrades across four sites in Victoria; Kingston, Clayton, Dandenong and Casey.

Our design focusses on creating a comfortable home-like environment, providing a sense of warmth and wellbeing. Through utilising a harmonious palette, selection of safe and robust fixtures and making the most of courtyards. These upgraded accommodations also facilitate greater interactions and delivery of excellent service for these clients.

We acknowledge the traditional owners of the land on which these projects reside; the Dja Dja Wurrung, Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung, Bunurong and Boonwurrung people
