A very straight forward solution to the common traditional stable walls that can isolate our horses from one another and their natural need to be in contact with other equines! Great initiative Haras de la Cense!

Isn't it peculiar that we often associate the highest care of our horses to be in single boxes with barriers that can ultimately effect their well being.

Thanks Horse SA for sharing this stable's transformation..a very valuable change for the horses' quality of life.

We are VERY pleased to announce that our abstract “The architecture of horse welfare: Improving horse welfare with ethologically-informed equine facility design” has been selected for the "Understanding Animals" conference!!

We are honoured by the scientific community’s acknowledgement of facility design as an important role in optimising animal welfare.

Now…if you are interested in going to what promises to be a very informative conference, you may like to know that it just proceeds Equitana Auckland!

An amazing few days to be had for all things education and equine!!

Abstract outcomes!

Over the next 10 days we will be sending out notifications to everyone who submitted an abstract. If you don't receive an email by the 17th of September, let us know.

What we can say at this point though, is that it is going to be an awesome program and we can't wait until November!!

I have been privileged to briefly met Dr. Temple Grandin a couple of times and yes!!!...she is very INSPIRATIONAL!!

We have a shared experience of Autism in our lives AND creating thoughtful constructed environments for animals that respond to their evolutionary needs...her's being cattle and mine horses.

Years ago her advice to me was to keep on keeping on with the challenge of communicating new ideas and write.. write...write...til my equine welfare message was heard above the status quo...above tradition. I rang Cristina Wilkins the next day and have been honoured to be a contributor to Horses and People magazine ever since!!!

And here I am passionately still educating and writing about the benefits of horse facilities that optimise horse welfare!! Thanks Temple!

"I always find it kind of funny that normal people are always saying autistic children 'live in their own little world.' When you work with animals for a while

Thanks Julie Fiedler! A couple of other topic ideas for consideration could include:
- 24/7 ventilation in stables without the draughts.
- Stable design that accommodates horse behaviour.
- How to reduce the heat gain in stables and minimise horse heat stress.

I am looking forward to the next webinar!!!

The Multi-Disciplinary Approach to Improving Animals' Lives is a great themed conference hosted by ISAE Australasia-Africa in New Zealand later in the year!!

We at Equitecture Horse Facility Design were inspired to submit an abstract on HORSES AND ARCHITECTURE and look forward to what promises to be a very interesting couple of days! There will be much talk about design of equine built environments, specifically in relation to accommodating horse behaviour...and critically the consequences of not!

Understanding Animals is a forum co-hosted by Massey University, the International Society for Applied Ethology (ISAE) and the Australian and New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching (ANZCAART). This 2-day event will bring together scientists from all disciplines to discu...
