Flashback to 1984, Scenic Studios painted the State Curtain for the Art Centre Melbourne designed by Graham Bennett. The painting took 3 months and it was believed that gold leaf and crushed glass were mixed through the paint to achieve the effect. However… the surface was painted in multiple layers of impasto technique. The layering of the paint brings a luminous effect when the curtain is lit to Truscott’s instructions. Do you miss seeing this beautiful curtain and live theatre?

We found a 105 year old post card addressed to Mr. George Upward a prolific scenic artist who worked at Theatre Royal, Melbourne for JC Williamson Theatres. The postcard was posted by Vernon Lorimer from Aurac, Gallipoli in September 1915.
It reads.... Just a thought. Here I am and have been some time now in the thick of it.
Well, happy and contented. Safely and ensconced in my dandy little dug out at present.
The Turks shells are whizzing over head and bursting about 120 yards away.
I’ve been in the front line and other places, the work is pretty strenuous at times, but it’s some excitement.
We get plenty to eat, also to***co & ci******es. But I could do with some magazines. Have you any.
