Yet this remarkable species thrives with metal coursing through its veins.

Scientists are deeply intrigued by how Pycnandra acuminata manages to survive while transporting such toxic concentrations of nickel without harming itself. This unique ability places it among a rare group of plants called hyperaccumulators — species that absorb extraordinary amounts of metals like nickel, zinc, or cobalt from the soil and safely store them in their tissues.
