Golden birch (Betula alleghaniensis) and Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia). Always among of the first things to colour up for us in autumn, this power couple never fails to put on a show. If you’re chasing autumn colour, the next few weeks are going to be spectacular here at Wychwood. 🍁 #🍁🍂 🍂

Eryngium bourgatii ‘Picos Blue’ is now available from our online store. A brilliant cultivar selected for its particularly vibrant blue flowers, and a substantial improvement on the seed-raised forms. It’s drought tolerant and exceptional for both the flowers and the foliage.

My absolute favourite ornamental grass is now available from our online store: Ampelodesmos mauritanicus. Extraordinary stately, breezy and so easy. This one is seldom, if ever, offered online in Australia; get ‘em while you can!

A whole host of new (and restocked) items are now available from our online store. Here’s a small selection: Aronia melanocarpa, Allium farreri, Fritillaria meleagris, Thalictrum delavayi ‘Album’ and Aralia racemosa. 👍

The magnificent California tree poppy (Romneya coulteri) channeling its inner Marilyn Monroe (on a subway grate)! For anyone planning a visit: the gardens will be closed for the month of February before reopening on March 1st.

The striking violet blue flowers of Platycodon grandiflorus ‘Astra Double’ in the nursery today. Always the first cultivar of our balloon flowers to open, the ‘Astra’ series are a group of more vigorous and floriferous forms of this wonderful Campanula relative, who get their common name from the appearance of their swollen buds (see pic 2) 💙

We’re open as normal through the Christmas / New Year period this year: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-4pm. We hope everyone has a nice, relaxing break coming up… or at least a break from hearing All I Want For Christmas Is You 7,000 times a day! 😆

A future release: Hosta ‘Kiwi Full Monty’, a grey-leaved sport of the much-loved Hosta ‘Striptease’. Forms a dense, low and wide mound of dramatically patterned leaves, which are more sun tolerant than most grey-leaved Hostas. Another brilliant Hosta from NZ’s Barry Sligh.

Arguably the best of the variegated hellebores: H. argutifolius ‘Pacific Frost’. It’s now available from our online store. Like all hellebores with a stem (caulescent) this one needs a bit more sun than those without.
