Today I sat down with a cuppa and took a moment to take in all the recent events and just breathe.
When I consult with clients on Permaculture, the overwhelm is always a significant part of the conversation.

Time to take my own advice, ‘Observe and Interact’ - one of the 12 Design principles of Permaculture.
I’ve been observing wind and rain, wildlife and sun so far; it’s all worth the waiting, even if it took a year.
Seeing a site through all seasons is so beneficial when planning where your orchard, veggie beds and chooks go especially.

Here, veggie beds are already in the best spot, and the mature fruit trees already on site, are a good start to the food garden I’m planning.

If I can swing it space wise, I’d love to add more indigenous habitat plants in the front garden as well as some native food 🌿🍃🌱

In other news, there has been significant interest in a newsletter so that’ll be happening over the next month, I’ll put something out for people to sign up so stay tuned ☺️

One of the best things I have done to make our new home feel like home, is to make sourdough ☺️
Later today I’ll get started on Kombucha, it’s been a long while and I really need to do it as I also miss drinking it!

The lovely people of Toora have been so kind and welcoming, such a great town and community 🥰

Back in 2021 at What the F'arm … Our first permaculture consultation, design beginning to take shape.
So so much has happened since then, lots and lots of collaborating and implementing with much success🥳
Systems in place with self sustaining abilities 🙏🏻🫶

We are down to the last couple of days in Monbulk before our move to South Gippsland.

My new view from where I’ll be doing designs, consultation notes, workshops and courses 🌱
It’ll be so amazing to have our own place from which to teach onsite, with the opportunity for workshops including fruit tree pruning, composting, growing veg organically, permaculture plus more .. 🍎

I love to create nurturing spaces to learn and share knowledge; hands-on learning is a great way to learn ☺️

I have been a little quiet lately, but soon I’ll have lots to tell you ☺️

We are right in the middle of moving, it’s a big move too as we are downsizing and thinning out our belongings by about 70%!

We have a smaller home but the garden is amazing, as is the huge garage (AKA the preservation and workshop area 😉).

A more simple way of living in the home but outside we will be growing heaps of our food 🥳
In the meantime, please enjoy this photo of a regular garden helper I had a few years ago 😍

Today marked the end of my course, Growing Veggies Organically & Sustainably - I am so blessed to have had such a wonderful and engaging group, lots of fun, knowledge sharing, food sharing!
We all made something to share today and it was delish, thank you so much everyone 🙏🩵🪴🌱

We chatted about organic pest control in the form of biodiversity and soil ecology.
Also on the agenda was the Mycorrhizal network and their symbiotic relationship with plants.

I invited my Permie friend Andre Brodmerkel to run a workshop too, delving into planning crops for cooking, seasonal eating, preserving and fermentation.
It was really fantastic! Thank you so much Andre, for sharing your wonderful knowledge with us all ☺️🙏gardencare ⬅️

I’ll be running this course again for , beginning in August, stay tuned for all the details coming soon ☺️

Gorgeous Hakea laurina, stunning habitat garden in Belgrave Heights.
Though this isn’t a local species, this property plays host to a large amount of indigenous plants including a back yard stuffed full of indigenous grass varieties 🥰

I had the pleasure of visiting this wonderful property in Macclesfield today for a Permaculture consultation.
Wonderful property just overflowing with the potential of abundance!
Orchard, veggie garden and regeneration were spoken about in depth.

I saw the opportunity for revegetation of local native species of smaller trees and understory plantings including shrubs, grasses and groundcovers, increasing habitat and increasing biodiversity 🌿🍃🌱🥰

Just had to share a photo of this storage room, lovely and cool, perfect for preservation activities and storing produce.
Looking vine all the tools out front, just waiting to be utilised 😍

Planning our new garden to include veggie patch (already in place) and 40 other fruit trees and edible plants on a large urban block is a wonderful challenge, however I am coming to realise that a couple of trees in my collection won’t do as well as where they were in Monbulk.

So I’ve been thinking about giving away one of my apple trees that is on M26 rootstock and replacing with a Magnus Summer Surprise which would be semi dwarf and grow bigger and can be pruned to desired shape and size.

A prolific fruiter and gorgeous dark pink blossom, dark reddish bark and the flesh is reddish pink and sweet.
It’ll be absolutely glorious in the front garden.
The front garden faces north so having deciduous trees means summer protection from the sun but as the leaves fall, allowing the sun to come in during the cooler months.
