As gardeners, we’re often obsessed with the weather — but these autumn days have me completely mesmerised. The soft hues through the fog, the dew, frost and drizzle… there’s something so peaceful about the way everything slows down at this time of year 🍂✨

Can't beat this view to start the weekend. Golden light as the sun sets over the Dandenong Ranges and a surprise rainbow to top it off 💚 🌈 ☔

Avocados are a long game. 🥑
Many trees take 5–10 years to fruit well, especially from seed-grown plants. Yields tend to increase gradually as the tree matures and establishes a strong root system. This tree is 8 years old and we have 5 avocados this year (up from 3 last year)
A good reminder that in gardening, patience isn’t optional — it’s part of the process 💚

By far my favourite chilli to grow — the absolutely stunning Buena Mulata 🌶️💜
From deep purple pods to vibrant red when ripe, this multicoloured beauty isn’t just eye-catching, it packs a flavourful punch too. A true standout in the veggie patch every season.

Last of the season’s tomatoes 🍅
Late seasons always make it tricky — still harvesting, but knowing it’s time to make space for the next season's crop. Never easy pulling out plants that are still giving, but it's a necessary evil to make way for the winter seedlings about to go in.

Last April, I walked into a home open and met this — Chilean bellflower (Lapageria rosea). Instant obsession 🌿
Tracked a grower down in Tassie, ordered a couple which were delivered by post... and now one is flowering 😍
Chile’s national flower, thriving in my edible garden — with edible berries and roots said to taste like sarsaparilla.
Worth. The. Wait. ✨

A few days leave is the perfect time to switch off from everything and spend some quality time outside immersed in the backyard constructing a new section of the garden. With views of Mount Dandenong in the background it's peaceful bliss (other than construction noise of saws and drills we have going 😂). Loving the shift of seasons to Autumn it's the perfect weather to be outdoors.

Some of the prettiest beans you’ll ever grow 💜
These Madagascan climbing beans are absolute showstoppers, producing short, broad, thin pods with just 1–2 seeds each. While they’re perfectly suited to tropical climates, they also perform beautifully in cooler regions like Melbourne.
Similar to scarlet runners and other “seven-year beans,” once established they’ll return year after year—provided they’re protected from heavy frost.
A little bit rare, a little bit magical… and well worth a spot in the garden!!
