Hi to All
FINALLY, after 9 years of research and development, with 4 years building the program, testing and re-testing, I think I have got the basis of the FIRST fully searchable plant data base.
Hort Data the Plant Data Base www.hortdata.com.au
You say the first, he's kidding there's lots out there. You are partly correct. There is a lot of plant information out there on the web, especially if you know the plant name,... there are a few sites that will allow some restricted searching.
But none that allows searching for a plant to grow in a particular spot for the general gardener or for a leaf type or fruit type or identification criteria for a professional botanist or landscape architect, with icons to explain what things mean and where possible photo's of plant, leaf, bark, flower, fruit and seed.
In fairness, at the moment the number of plants is limited, but it is growing daily. Up till now most of my time has been spent on developing a user friendly, easily navigated and understandable for the normal gardener but correct for the professional horticultural person.
I hope you find it interesting and pass along the information about the web site to others. I would enjoy any feed back positive or negative... especially any negative feed back so that I can remedy the problem and improve on it from there.
For those that know me, yes, I'm still doing my select landscaping and garden maintenance but at least 50% of my time is going into research and building of Hort Data.
Regards
Ken Harrington
