Fresh from the wintry hills east of Melbourne we've sourced these deciduous bare root trees for our customers.
Fruit, nut and ornamental trees ranging from mulberries and figs to magnolias and maples. Varieties were chosen for their suitability to our subtropical climate.
Its the first time we've offered bare root trees so we've gotten a limited range and numbers but hope you find what you're after here. Short time only (as we'll pot them as they start to sprout).
Bare root trees have no soil or potting mix sold with them and their roots are pruned. Roots must be kept moist so that they don't completely dry out, which could kill the tree. This way of buying trees makes them easier to transport and cheaper to purchase.
Bare root trees are grown in the ground and can tolerate getting dug up as they are dormant at this time of year. So these trees are more advanced than pot grown trees their age.
Plant your bare root tree as soon as you can and keep the roots moist until then. Dig an ample hole so no roots are aboveground, make a mound at the bottom of the hole and splay the roots over the mound so they are spread evenly and bury with soil and compost or planting mix such as Searles Dig-In 5in1. Mulch and water.
