There’s something so exciting about finding free food growing where you least expect it!

One day there’s nothing... the next, a surprise volunteer plant has appeared.
It’s one of my favourite parts of gardening-those little unexpected gifts that remind you nature has a mind of its own.
What’s the strangest place you have had food or veggies pop up in your place??

As a beginner gardener I planted these sweet potatoes 22 weeks ago and today was finally harvest day.
I had visions of pulling out giant sweet potatoes and filling a basket with homegrown goodness…
But gardening has a funny way of keeping you humble.
After 22 weeks of waiting, watering, and hoping, I dug them up to find… pretty much nothing.
Was I disappointed? Absolutely.
But every garden fail is a lesson, and every season teaches you something new.
So while this harvest wasn’t the success I was hoping for, I’m not giving up. That’s gardening—sometimes you get a feast, and sometimes you get experience.
Here’s to trying again next season!

CELERY & MILK - New BFFs
Beginner gardeners: don’t plant celery without doing this first! Putting empty milk bottles around celery plants can be a great gardening trick.
Benefits:
¿ Protection from pests - Acts as a barrier against slugs, snails, and some insects.
9 Mini greenhouse effect - Helps keep young celery plants warmer during cool weather.
Wind protection - Celery prefers steady moisture and can suffer in strong winds.
• Moisture retention - Reduces water loss around the plant.
How to do it:
1. Wash an empty milk bottle.
2. Cut the bottom off.
3. Remove the lid for ventilation or cut top off.
4. Place the bottle over the celery seedling and gently push it into the soil.
5. Secure with a tie or string.

Once the celery starts filling the bottle or the weather warms up, remove it to prevent overheating and improve airflow.

What’s eating my sweet potatoes? I finally caught the culprit..
Large caterpillars are common sweet potato pests and can quickly chew through leaves overnight.

As a beginner gardener, moments like this make it all worth it.
My first strawberry of the season was a beauty🍓big, juicy, and full of flavour!
