Why are ants everywhere? Because they are extremely important to keeping ecosystems working! Up to 37 nest entrances have been counted per m2 in drier lands in NSW. This improves rain infiltration significantly and is one of the impacts Ants have on ecosystems. Ant tunnels also improve soil fertility and aeration, protection of plants from predators, are great pollinators, and Echidnas LOVE them! https://www.publish.csiro.au/SR/SR9940323

Interestingly, my choko vine seems to be heading straight for the verandah rail to climb. Last year it spent some months trying different directions to find something to grab! The verandah vine was quite long and dragging over the choko before when it realised it could grab it and climb. This year it is actively searching it out! Amazing hey!

360 Pacific Highway Belmont - Salvos before the canal at Womara Ave Belmont lights. Just before Vinnies.
The Low Impact design "Pollinator Garden" at Belmont Eastlakes Salvos, supported by Café 360 - Eastlakes, has been doing well with very minimal input!
On Thursday morning 31st Oct for only 2 hours (9-11am), we are having a little Working Bee to mulch and tend to the other carpark gardens! If you would like to join us and see what we are doing to support local native pollinators, come along and bring a wheelbarrow to move mulch!
There will be TEA and CAKE afterwards... and maybe a Scrabble Tournament!😁🤩🐝🐞🦋🌼
