Retaining the character and history of the original home while creating new spaces for connection, light, and family life.

Unsympathetic additions accumulated over time were carefully removed, allowing the original house to be restored and celebrated once again.

To the rear, a contemporary addition of brick and lightweight cladding introduces generous open-plan living and kitchen spaces below, with a calm main bedroom and study retreat above - thoughtfully designed to support both everyday living and moments of quiet retreat.

Designed to bring warmth, light, and comfort into everyday family life, this renovation reimagines an existing home through passive design principles.

Originally built in the 1980s and extended again in the late 1990s, the house failed to fully embrace the opportunities of its north-facing double-width site.

Our response was to remove the existing rear pavilion and introduce a new living addition defined by a 4.5m-high wall of glass, opening the home to sunlight, garden, and sky. Above, a hidden roof garden creates an unexpected layer of landscape and retreat within the home.

Set quietly beneath the expansive canopy of a heritage-listed fig tree, new additions sit gently behind the original timber cottage, creating a dialogue between old and new through form and materiality.

Guided by passive design principles, the new two-storey rear addition is constructed in concrete and reverse brick veneer, using thermal mass internally to naturally regulate temperature and create comfortable living spaces throughout the seasons.

Architecture at a child's scale: snippets from inside Heath Road Early Learning Centre.

Heath Road Early Learning Centre represents a thoughtful approach to educational design in Sydney’s burgeoning southwest growth corridor.

Scale, form and material relate to children’s sense of self within a space. Inside, the children’s spaces feature thoughtfully designed perimeters that frame specific views and create serene transitions to adjacent courtyard gardens.

Contemporary living woven carefully into the fabric of a restored Victorian terrace.

Designed for an artist and musician in inner Sydney, the project balances a love of heritage with a bold and highly personal approach to colour, materiality, and space.

Our interventions included a new open-plan kitchen and dining space, concealed laundry, bathrooms across both levels, and a reimagined courtyard garden - creating a home that feels both expressive and deeply connected to everyday living.

Set well back from the street, beneath the towering limbs of a gigantic heritage-listed fig tree, the additions are in stark contrast to the original timber cottage in form and materiality.

In keeping with our objective of using passive means of cooling, the new two-storey rear section of living spaces and bedrooms is constructed in concrete and reverse brick veneer, maximising thermal mass where it is needed – on the inside of the building.

An undulating recycled brick wall forms a sculptural boundary to the rear lane and sets the tone for a home that responds thoughtfully to its urban setting.

At House in Stanmore, a floating curved ceiling, clerestory windows, and a skylight carry that same considered touch through to the interiors, creating what the clients describe as "a sanctuary from our urban life."

We’re excited to see our Studio Director, Sam Crawford, featured in the May edition of the Sydney Alumni Magazine.

Sam graduated from the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Architecture in 1997. Two years earlier, he’d already had the opportunity to design a real project - a house for his sister’s family. The article reflects on the career that followed, from those early beginnings to leading a practice known for thoughtful, context-driven architecture.

We are proud to share that we have been shortlisted in the the Australian Institute of Architect's 2026 NSW Architecture Awards

Willowdale Sports Precinct has been shortlisted in two categories, the Colourbond Award for Steel Architecture and Public Architecture.

Each year, an esteemed panel of industry experts and leaders selects a shortlist of projects demonstrating architectural excellence. We are honoured to be among many inspiring projects and architects in this category.

Designed with Lymesmith, Willowdale Sports Precinct is located on Dharawal and Gandangara Country in the rapidly densifying area south of Sydney’s new international airport. The sports precinct provides a much needed community hub. It's materiality reflects the remains of ancient clay ovens traditionally used by local Indigenous people found nearby.

Winners will be announced on July 2nd. Wish us luck!

Thank you to our clients for supporting thoughtful public architecture.

Room to breathe.

A wedge-shaped house on a pint-sized plot in a heritage area, with lots of character and needing a lot of love, now has room to breathe.

Venetian red balconies reinterpret the traditional terrace balcony and the renovation sensitively retains and enhances the original building fabric.
