Last week our Studio C Master of Architecture students had a First Nation community collaboration session at Charcoal Lane in Fitzroy, the former Aboriginal Health Service building, a place of special cultural heritage to Melbournes First Peoples.
It was an opportunity for students to listen, learn and discuss their creative ideas with Senior cultural advisor and Yorta Yorta man, Jason Tamiru, and Aunty Rieo Ellis, Waka Waka / Bundjilung Elder.
A morning of thoughtful conversation, reflection and learning. ❤️💛🖤

It was great to present my design research, as a part of the OVGA (Office of the Victorian Government Architect) - Thought Leadership - talks yesterday afternoon.

My speculative design research explores the critical need for alternative approaches to greenfield subdivision & housing design in Melbourne’s growth areas.

More flexible, adaptable subdivision models are needed in growth areas that enable denser and more diverse housing options, have a more meaningful engagement with place, have greater Traditional Owner engagement, and provide greater areas for biodiversity and land regeneration.

Design thinking solutions are needed.

It was great to discuss possible industry partnerships, co-design workshops, implementation and dissemination of the research, and pathways to refine and develop my design toolkit concept and principles into plausible, actionable tools for industry.

Today I gave my first lecture for Design Studio Gamma

“For me, each residential project provides an opportunity for ongoing design research into housing that grapples with a range of critical issues including plot siting, scale, increased site efficiencies, better relationships to open space, connection to place and spatial flexibility and consideration of how these plan types explored in my own practice, at a micro plot scale – could perform at precinct and neighbourhood scale_ addressing some of the broader urban challenges that our cities are facing.” Delia Teschendorff

I discussed a range of key projects built & unbuilt demonstrate this approach.

A privilege to be a contributor to the wonderful 2Bornot2B exhibition this year - a true celebration of hand drawing by architects and creative practice.
I encourage you all to visit Lorne to see the exhibition at - it is on until 27th April 2025.
All funds raised from sales go towards supporting the Sinclair - Nelson Drawing Scholarship to support a student of Architecture, awarded by
My drawing is titled “Tidal”. A meditative process, this drawing reflects my fascination with coastal patterns, such as sea birds feathers, the intricate markings on rocks and the beautiful and varied patterns created by the oceans tide on the sand.

There is always an element of anticipation and excitement when a roll of film is developed.
This is a beautiful photo (b&w film) of the Colonnade with me in the distance taken by my partner in Dec ‘24. One of my favourite spaces in Madrid.

As people have been asking_ you may have noticed my orange sign is no longer in the window in Queensberry St_ after 7 years, I have recently moved out of my beautiful studio in North Melbourne as the building was sold last year (I would have loved to buy it, alas…!!)
For now I am working from my home studio (which is a beautiful space in Bridge House 1 and close by) until I find a suitable alternative. (Image 2)
As they say, when one door closes another door opens
I am enjoying a change of scenery and looking forward to the exciting projects that DTA are embarking on this year! Delia 🙂

Design Thesis ‘Salon’ today
An informal, peer led, peer review session between two studios, “Unsettling Suburbia” (led by me) and “Anthropocene” led by Virginia Mannering and Helene Frichot
A diverse range of fascinating projects presented by students today, and an excellent opportunity for cross pollination of ideas and valuable peer critique. 🙌
Also a fun way to end the week just before mid sem break!
