During Construction — Bare Bones

The first in our Bare Bones series takes you inside a Northcote Californian Bungalow, stripped back just before new works begin. Demolition uncovered a few surprises: beams with no support and bathroom walls built far stronger than they ever needed to be.

Now the site is spotless, the tree is safely retained, and everything is ready for the next chapter.

This Alterations & Additions project unites contemporary design with the charm of Victorian architecture. A quiet dusk shot just before handover.

What was once just a door to an uninspiring outdoor space has been transformed into a seamless indoor–outdoor kitchen, complete with incredible bifold doors that flood the space with light and connection.

From hand sketches to Revit, to construction on site - this is where detail takes shape.⁠

In this Fitzroy renovation, the original building is carefully stripped back to its bare shell. From there, a new architectural is layered. Aluminium battens introduce rhythm, while charred timber (Shou Sugi Ban) brings texture and depth.⁠
