Sometimes when the space is large the challenge is daunting and you will not know where to start. Using an experienced garden designer can produce spectacular results. Not only that but the resulting garden can be very low maintenance and drought tolerant.

A lovely informal, low maintenance garden that we designed four years ago. Note: There is very little ground space for weeds to grow and each plant has the space to grow so no pruning. Hence...Low maintenance!

A deck is a great way to add living space to your garden but check that it will comply with the building code before you go ahead.
When designing it perhaps think about how to get interesting contrast with other materials. Maybe try insetting pavers in your deck or using Limestone as a feature wall. Does it need to be rectangular? Can you make an interesting shape?

To paraphrase Ron Barrassi 'Perfect planning makes perfect'. Before you start building or renovating your garden get a plan...a good one. Design faults are cheaper and easier to fix on paper than they are when the contractor is on site. A detailed, scaled plan saves money, assists with costing and literally gives perspective. So... do it yourself or get an expert but do it.
