Got tired of the cost of day old chick's and getting them weak and struggling to keep them alive until butcher time..... last couple of years from 3 different hatcheries and the same results... nearly $5 ea and lethargic when they arrive and some dead on arrival.... so about a month ago I bought an incubator..... and put 2 dozen of our own ranch eggs.... we have dual purpose chickens bought with this in mind.... and we now have 10 very active new chicks!! Had a steep learning curve on the control of temp and the weather.... so had 2 night temp dropped way to low and knew it would affect the hatch rate.... but.... all in all... we are very very happy with the outcome and this step getting closer to self-sufficiency......
