The serene and layered rooms of Luis Barragán are wonderful retreat@form the bustle of Mexico City. Part sculpture, part sanctuary, and part living laboratory, they do not rely on elaborate detail or materiality, but experience of deeply considered place, ground, sky, landscape, colour and culture.

We’re delighted that The Surf Hotel has been shortlisted in the 2026 NSW Regional Architecture Awards.
It’s a project that shows how modest, carefully considered architecture can have a meaningful impact in regional NSW — quietly strengthening place, community and the coastal landscape it sits within.
Five years on, the Surf has proven to be sustainable, well-loved and commercially successful, a testament to the many hands and minds who contributed to its making.
We’re grateful for this recognition and look forward to welcoming the jury to Yamba in early December.

Glebe Point Road

A complete transformation of a heritage-listed semi in the heart of Glebe.

On a steep, narrow site, the project called for delicate excavation, precise structure and a careful balance between heritage and contemporary life.

Midway through, one builder went into administration — a difficult moment that ultimately brought the team together. The result is a home of quiet precision, where every millimetre counts.

A testament to patience, collaboration and craft.

From every angle, Elizabeth Bay House maintains a striking connection to landscape.

The brief called for a private family sanctuary that balanced seclusion with openness. In response, our architectural approach carefully mediates between built form and natural context, integrating harbour and garden views at every opportunity.

Landscape: Tom Sitta Terragram
Structural: Chapman Hutchison

A defining feature of Elizabeth Bay House is the over 100,000 character-rich bricks used across both the interior and exterior.

The client sought kiln-fired bricks – untouched by render, plaster or paint – for their raw texture and tonal variation.

Each brick was hand-scrubbed, colour-matched, and precisely laid to achieve visual harmony, inside out and out.

High-quality, custom furniture brings a truly elevated outcome to every project.

This goes beyond aesthetics. Fixtures, fittings, and furniture define proportion, materiality, and functionality within a space – anchoring the key activities of daily life: how we gather, eat, meet, sit, and sleep.

To achieve this, we often design bespoke pieces tailored precisely to the spatial and architectural context, collaborating closely with expert craftspeople to ensure each project feels complete and fully integrated.

Scenes from our visit to Sea Ranch, an extraordinary community on the Sonoma Coast, Northern California.

Planned in the early 1970s by landscape architect Lawrence Halprin and architect Charles Moore, Sea Ranch was envisioned as a collection of homes that disappear into the landscape – a radical alternative to conventional grid-style development.

Each house is sited with care, responding to wind, terrain, vegetation and sweeping Pacific Ocean views. Built under thoughtful design controls, the use of timber siding and shingles weathers into a soft grey, blending seamlessly with the coast.

The result is a community where landscape connection and shared design values take precedence over individual expression – creating a rare cohesion between architecture and environment.
