The rain pretty much hasn’t stopped for days now, so it’s been the perfect excuse to disappear into the studio and work on some ceramics.

I’ve finally wrapped up a large commission that I’ve been working on for months, which has freed me up to spend time on the things that really put my mind at ease. Making roses for me is one of those processes where I completely fall into a flow state. I stop overthinking, switch off for a while and just create.

It’s the same feeling I get when I paint birds. Finding subject matter that genuinely connects with you is so important, not just for a creative career but for your creative life in general. It’s what keeps you grounded in the process and reminds you why you started creating in the first place.

Getting back into pottery lately, this is a rose I made a while back, it’s quite a meditative process to make and they are super easy. I would use them to test the glazes as the different surface levels let you see how the glaze reacts after firing.

“Robert” 30 x 30cm mixed medium on Masonite :
Just finished this one of my dad.
In this photo he’s younger than I am now, which feels a bit surreal.

I thought it was done a few weeks ago, but went back in with the palette knife and pushed it into something a bit more contemporary, a bit more raw.

This is the first piece in a new body of work I’ve been building over the past year, shaped by time spent on farms, slowing down, observing, and reconnecting.

A lot more to come.

I keep thinking about pottery lately, it’s something I really miss.

Cooking has always been a big part of my life, and there’s something special about creating the food and the vessels it’s served on. Living on the road means I can’t exactly carry fragile pieces with me, so it’s been left behind for now, but I’m looking forward to the day I can settle and build a full set again.

This collection, Atlantis, was made for my home a few years ago. Plates, salad bowls, cups, sushi platters, pasta and soup bowls, all finished with a sapphire base glaze and an olive float over the top.

The whole collection was inspired by the movement of the ocean. The larger bowls were shaped by the natural push of my palm in a circular motion, no real plan, just letting the clay move. Every mark and glaze run reflects that flow, something organic that still feels in motion even when it’s still.
