It’s been way too long since I’ve shown some love to you crazy planty people so I though why not just kick it back off with running a stall at the Darwin Rare Plant Fair!
This April I’ll have lots of exciting goodies to share with Darwin locals and hopefully get to catch up and answer any plant care questions you have in person!
There will be lots of other private collectors and sellers there as well so save the date Darwin!

Hello planty people!
The last few months I’ve been very quiet on the socials, life has totally got away from me lately and I actually cannot believe that it is November!

A positive to this is that I haven’t been helicopter style obsessing over the plants and I get to see bigger changes.
Seeds have popped out and new infuctescenes are starting to form, it’s an Anthurium baby making party in there right now!

The Anthurium seedlings have also been going wild and I’ve got a few that will be loaded onto the shop shortly!

Anyway… it’s nice to be back online and have some beautiful stock to sell!
I hope everyone is having a great week 💚

So much reproductive activity happening in this one pic.
One inflorescence is slowing transitioning into an infructescence and the other is receptive and ready to receive that baby making material, pollen (get your mind out of the gutter).

Annoyingly enough the inflos will become receptive first and then produce pollen, so the pollen has to be stored and then applied to the next receptive inflo. Or you need multiple flowering plants and the flower cycles need to line up. Depending of the plant this window can vary.
This is the plants way of encouraging gene diversity and strengthening its genetics to ensure survival. This is also why hybrids or plants that are pollinated by a different parent plant are often stronger than pure breeds, much like in dogs.
This means that everything that both parent plants have ever been exposed to is passed down through the next generation, maintaining a natural immunity to pests, diseases, bacterial, etc.
This is also why sexually propagated plants (by seed) are often much stronger than vegetatively propagated plants (by cuttings, splitting and tissue culture).

🌿 Albizia lebbeck
Not my usual type of plant pic but I just couldn’t walk past this sapling growing in the under growth of the rainforest section of the George Brown Botanic Gardens.
I’ve been on a blue plant hunt lately and this definitely tickled my fancy.
