1. It's been raining, do my new plants really need watering?

Absolutely! Surface rain does not compare with regular, deep watering. Automatic irrigation systems can double your growth rate 👏

2. Should we use w**d matting?

This one is tricky. I do not use plastic w**d matting as it has a whole list of negative impacts on the plants and the environment. In saying that, natural hessian w**d matting can help with soil erosion on sloped garden beds. The best way to prevent w**ds is proper preparation and at least 50mm of mulch.

3. Are Australian natives going to look messy/ugly?

In short, no. It all depends on plant selections (that's what I'm here for!), there are hundreds of modern varieties to suit small gardens that stay small, dense and flower profusely.

Don't forget the little guys!

Often, when dreaming up an outdoor space, the small shrubs and ground covers are an afterthought.

In mass plantings, these delicate members of the undergrowth can have a huge impact and can often become the unexpected stars!

Layering in your outdoor space is so important, it stops planted areas looking like a big green haze.

So enjoy the little plants!

GG&D is back again for 2024! Exciting!

Over the last few days, I've found myself reflecting on all the wonderful people from the Limestone Coast I've crossed paths with in 2023 . . .

The enduring support and experience from other small business owners has made me realise how lucky we are to live here. A special shout out to those I've worked with that are on the verge of an epic career. I'm here for it!
