It's time to plant - but do it right:) Quality stock, compost and fertiliser. I use Black Gold Compost from Eureka, Troforte fertiliser, blood and bone plus water in with Seasol - and, of course, buy quality stock from a nursery (I find Dawsons have good products and are very helpful). Happy regular Hocking customer. Seek to maximise the current warm weather to get plants underway.

It's TIME: trim your hedges and lightly fertilise them (I use Troforte slow release fertiliser developed for Perth conditions, available at Dawsons, Soilsaintsoils...). Now is the time to trim severely, if necessary, as I did for sections of this hedge for regular Carramar customer.

Time to get your vege gardens ready for planting. I spread Troforte slow release fertiliser (available Dawsons, Soilsaintsoils... $38 3.5kg) then Eureka Black Gold Compost (West Swan Rd, $15 bag). Important ongoing soil building: the law of return! Now Padbury customer ready to plant. Try local seed saver Linda Lemasters (fb) for affordable organic seeds if you want to raise own seedlings (Greenlife are local producer of seed raising mix).

Eventhough expensive, it spreads well and lasts: pine wood chips. Today spread 3 trailer loads from Soilsaintsoils Neerabup and cut down large shrub for a Sinagra customer. A good workout!

Was it too early trim? Trimmed overgrown hedge for regular customer in Woodvale. Only did lightish trim as still hot and dry weather ahead.

Trim them hard or even better remove them: yukkas! Did a big trim of yukkas today for a customer in Banksia Grove as they were a danger to those parking next to them, especially youngsters. Hard trimmed 3 - 2 are featured below. Needed a variety of tools, including a chainsaw. So many other more attractive plant options that are suitable for Perth conditions: true nurseries such as Dawsons have a plethora of options.

Get them out!! Remove any yukkas near fences, walls or paths as they will cause major damage. Cutting them back only makes them bigger. To make it easier to remove when cutting back leave a length of trunk. A crowbar is very handy for breaking roots, however check for pipes:) Currumbine customer happy to have it out - and on verge for City of Joondalup greens pick-up.

'I want to see the golf course from our lounge room,' a Jakarta based customer said on a visit last year to his Currumbine property. Thanks to the City of Joondalup greens pick-up he got his wish.

Cover up: it's summer ☀️!! Pulled tall weeds, sprayed rest with Slasher Organic Weedkiller then covered with Prowood mulch from Soilsaintsoils Neerabup ($56 a trailer load). Happy Kinross customer:)
