Hocking Heritage + Architecture We take on small commissions to large complex projects in all of Western Australia.

We are an award winning architectural practice with a passion for beautiful buildings, liveable spaces and the recycling of older buildings for new contemporary uses. Established in 1986 the practice’s approach is based on in-depth research into issues that influence studies and projects, application of industry’s best practices and to reconcile the divergent needs of stakeholders, communities, sp

ecialist disciplines, heritage planning and building agencies into benchmark standard outcomes. As a leading researcher in the form and structure of settlements and urban development in Western Australia, HHS has been involved with various studies of urban villages, historic development patterns of inner suburbs and the application of principles of social and environmental sustainability to urban development. HHS’s strength in heritage and planning processes is supported by our knowledge of the patterns of historic environments and the built fabric technology of historic places. Our capability to engage in multi faceted projects spanning across heritage, planning, architecture and urban design disciplines has been acknowledged by clients and peers and is demonstrated by the number of major awards and commendations at state and national levels.

The heritage listed Subiaco Oval Gates stand prominently as a lasting reminder of the entry into the former Subiaco Oval stadium, removed as part of a major urban renewal plan. Their conservation links the past to the future with their careful restoration curated by our team.

The historic brick kilns and chimney stacks at the Ascot Kilns in Belmont site have received a commendation for excellence in conservation from the Heritage Council. All remaining structures on this industrial site were able to be stabilised and a new canopy installed to protect them for years to come. We'll done to everyone involved!

Another important landmark preserved. 👏

Over the last couple of days our team have participated in heritage tours of the former Bristile Kilns site in Ascot. The landmark quality of the site has been enhanced by the careful conservation of the kilns, chimneys and tunnels and it was great to interact with the community and share knowledge to promote understanding and appreciation of this site which is of national importance.

Wonderful to have worked on this historic building which was the Nurses Quarters to the heritage listed Heathcote Hospital in Applecross! A great outcome showing how successful adaptive re-use can be in carefully repurposing existing building stock, including into high-end residential. We are filled with pride!

Blending modern-day finishes with timeless charm, Duncraig House is a landmark residence in a prestigious position on Duncraig Road with Swan River views. Once part of a hospital, the historic home merges heritage and contemporary styles through a transformation designed by Hocking Heritage + Archit...

Such a privilege to be able to work with the Shire of Leonora and our friends at Creative Spaces to visit the heritage places of the shire and to take in some of that big sky. A shout out to Outback Grave Markers for the valuable work they do in regional WA.

So nice to see Gwalia get some press from Destination WA. It has been an honour to restore Hoover House, working with the locals and the Shire of Leonora in creating a unique Museum precinct showcasing this historic town from the gold rush era. Definitely worth the visit!

Chrissy steps up to Leonora, where the Gwalia Ghost Town awaits her, possibly the most thoughtful part of her trip down the Golden Quest Discovery trail.

We were honoured to present Gwalia as a heritage destination in the FACET Heritage Tourism Workshop 2023. Our very own Gemma Dewar and Rikki Clarke of Creative Spaces were at the helm, seeing it evolve into a popular tourist attraction. Well done team!
