Kalamunda Garden Festival June 2026 done and dusted!

Thank you so much to everyone who came to have a chat, buy a plant, or say hi to Sean again after seeing him at the Kings Park Plant Sale ridiculously early in the morning 🌸

We were so busy I even forgot to get a picture of our set-up so instead I've gone with some living proof that a native garden verge is far superior to grass πŸ’–

See you all at the next one in September!

I think my mini flower arrangement has passed the sniff-inspection! Everyone wanted to have a look at what was flowering in the garden this week 🏡️πŸͺ»πŸŒΈ

We will have a few Thryptomene and Grevillea species as well as many others this Sunday at the Kalamunda Garden Festival if you have your own inspection crew looking for something to do!

Ft: Thryptomene strongylophylla, Darwinian oldfieldii, and Grevillea humifusa

Side quest time! Stylidium are one of my favourite pocket sized plant pals.

They have a peculiar method of pollination, whereby an insect landing on its flower will trigger the modified reproductive organs (πŸ˜‰) to snap forward, cover them in pollen, and send them on their way to the next plant.

Here are some of the species we have in the garden:

Stylidium merralii (and Canis familiaris)
Stylidium adnatum
Stylidium fasciculatum subsp. gigantic
Stylidium albomontis
Stylidium rhynchocarpum (recovering after dying back over summer)
Stylidium gutattum (we'll have these for sale in at the spring market)

Sneaking in some propagation before the prep for the Kalamunda Garden Festival. While there's a lot of work left to do on the greenhouse shelving (more on that soon), there's a TV and heat blanket here β˜•πŸ›‹οΈ

Busy busy busy! It's been full steam ahead on propagation around here, luckily the safety inspector has given all our tiny forests the stamp of Sheltie Approval β˜‘οΈ

Hoping to have some of these ready for a few markets from now 🀞 As the cold weather hits it gets harder and harder to get cuttings to strike as many WA natives enter a period of relative dormancy going into the winter months ❄️

✨ Verticordia etheliana var. etheliana ✨

The plant that started it all is finally back in the garden thanks to the incredible grafting team over at 😱

First formally described in 1942 the name honors Ethel Gray Blackall, wife of William Blackall who collected the type specimens between Yaringa Station and Northampton.

Side project time!

Since acquiring the incredible book Verticordia The turner of hearts by Elizabeth George we have embarked on a journey to press some flowers of each Verticordia that we get our hands on. Here's a few recent results ☺️

Obviously we will be trying to propagate these incredible plants, but Verticordia have a reputation as being difficult for a very good reason. Here's hoping for some success though ✨🀞✨

We've been getting a lot of requests for our Quaalup bells lately, so I'm crouched like a little goblin in my front yard, head torch on, taking cuttings in the rain.

The passing cars are noticeably slowing down.
I'm having great fun 😁
