Opening the door to the next generation of architects

Applications for TRCB’s Scholarship Program are kicking off soon, and this year, we are expanding the opportunity.

For the first time, Masters of Architecture students from The University of Notre Dame will be eligible to apply, alongside students from the University of Western Australia and Curtin University.

One scholarship will be offered to a student from each university, providing recipients with practical exposure to life in an architectural practice - from working in a studio environment and contributing to projects to participating in client workshops and experiencing the everyday problem-solving that brings architecture ideas to life.

Architecture is learned through study but is shaped through practice - seeing how projects evolve and understanding the responsibility that comes with designing places for people.

For TRCB, supporting students is part of our broader commitment to building the future of architecture in Western Australia.

Al-Ameen College Malaga Stage 2 | Development Application Approved

A major milestone for education in Perth’s north-east.
The Al-Ameen College Malaga campus has officially received development approval, marking an exciting step forward for the project and the College’s long-term vision to expand into a second campus.
TRCB are proud to have contributed to this outcome. Building on our earlier work at the Langford campus, we were engaged in early 2025 to review and refine the masterplan for the new Malaga campus, alongside leading the architectural design for Stage 2 through to Development Application.
Shaped by the master planning process and projected student growth, Stage 2 delivers secondary school teaching spaces, a Gymnasium and a Musallah, supported by landscaped outdoor spaces.
The result is a considered, staged approach that responds to immediate needs while enabling long-term growth.
We look forward to seeing the Malaga campus take shape as a future-focused education environment for the community.

Wesley College, South Perth WA
As Wesley College Campus Architects for the last 18 years, TRCB has developed a deep understanding of the place and its people.

Following years of investment in high-quality teaching and learning environments across the beautiful South Perth campus, the College identified a clear need to elevate its sporting facilities and to create a space where the entire College community could come together under one roof.

Fast forward to 2026, the Centenary Building Project is nearing completion – housing a 4-court gymnasium with associated changerooms, General Learning Classrooms, a Commercial Teaching Kitchen and an event space catering for up to 1,800 people. In parallel, the College is renovating the H.R. Blanckensee Gymnasium into a High-Performance Centre, alongside the development of a new Aquatic Precinct, which will be home to a dedicated water polo pool and a 50-metre lap and learn-to-swim pool.

To mark this progress, David Spreadbury (TRCB) and Luke Brunner (Encon Project Management) recently led a site visit for 25 eager architects and project managers. The site visit, spanning works by Crothers Construction and Perkins Builders, provided a valuable snapshot of projects at varying stages of delivery.
These new facilities will significantly enhance the way students engage with sport at Wesley College, while also creating meaningful opportunities for broader community connection and use. TRCB is proud to be part of delivering this important next chapter for the College.

Graduate Award Spotlight
Congratulations to our talented graduates and students recognised recently at the UWA School of Design 2025 Design Prize Awards Night!

Dylan Frkovich was awarded the Bondor Architecture Award, recognising the architecture student achieving the highest aggregate mark across Level 3 core units of the Bachelor of Environmental Design course. Dylan was also named the recipient of the 2026 TRCB Scholarship, awarded to support a high-achieving architecture student pursuing the Master of Architecture course. As part of the scholarship, Dylan is completing an internship with TRCB, gaining valuable industry experience.

Marnie Allen received the Robwin and Sons Prize in Architecture Award for demonstrating the best performance in the costing component of the Professional Practice unit.

Julian Mason was awarded the T&Z Architects Prize in Social Impact Design, recognising the student who achieved the highest aggregate mark in social impact design coursework.

We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing the impact they will make as the next generation of emerging leaders in architecture.

TRCB30 | Celebrating the Next Chapter of TRCB
As we come to the final chapter of TRCB30, we reflect on a series celebrating 30 Years of People. Projects. Partners.
More than a collection of buildings, this series has celebrated the people, clients, collaborators, and communities who have shaped TRCB and contributed to Western Australia's architectural story. Across three decades of work, these projects represent a shared commitment to thoughtful design, enduring relationships, and places that make a lasting contribution to our built environment.
We find it fitting that the final instalment celebrates our own studio. Designed by TRCB for TRCB, the refurbishment and relocation of our practice to 88 William Street marks an important milestone, strengthening our connection to the city, our clients, and our community. Located within the historic Walsh's Building, originally designed by Sir Talbot Hobbs, the studio provides a collaborative workplace that reflects the evolution of the practice while respecting the building's heritage and character.
As members of our team reflect in the accompanying video, this move honours 30 years of achievement while opening an exciting new chapter for TRCB and the opportunities that lie ahead.
Thank you to everyone who has played a part in the TRCB journey over the past 30 years. We look forward to continuing these relationships, building new ones, and shaping the next chapter together.

TRCB30 – Taylor Robinson Office – 234 Railway Parade, West Leederville
Once home to the Taylor Robinson office, 234 Railway Parade holds a special place in the history of our practice. Set between a landmark 1920s bungalow and a prominent commercial building, the project presented an opportunity to create a contemporary workplace that connects two distinct architectural contexts. TRCB’s design responds to both, establishing a confident yet respectful transition between the historic residence and the evolving commercial streetscape of West Leederville.

Rather than replicate the language of the original building, the design responds through its scale, form and materiality, creating a respectful dialogue between old and new.

Positioned on the site of a former tennis court, the addition introduces light-filled, open-plan workspaces connected directly to the original residence. A mezzanine level creates
a generous entry experience, while a floating timber stair anchors the lobby space. At the owners’ request, the structure is largely exposed, celebrating the building’s
engineering logic and contributing to the openness of the largely column-free interior.

References to the original residence are expressed through materials, circular motifs and bullnosed brick detailing. Beyond these connections, the material palette was
guided by a desire for lightness and simplicity. The façade is expressed as a clean glazed curtain wall, incorporating a back-painted glass graphic that reinforces the contemporary character of the addition while maintaining a visual relationship with its historic neighbour.

As a workplace that helped define an era of TRCB’s practice, 234 Railway Parade now forms part of a broader narrative of change. The next and final chapter of TRCB30 turns to our anniversary and the new office that carries this story forward.

Meet TRCB Director, Eamon Broderick

Architecture, for Eamon, begins with possibility.

It’s that first moment of pause – sitting down, gathering thoughts, and imagining entirely new – that still excites him. Seeing an idea take shape and come to life on site is deeply rewarding, and no two projects are ever the same.

Growing up with an architect father, Eamon once thought he’d do anything but architecture. Yet, he ticked the architecture application box - and never looked back.

What fascinates him most is the creative power of constraint. Budgets, complex sites, heritage buildings and existing conditions don’t limit good architecture – they unlock it. Those apparent restrictions often spark unexpected ideas and creative leaps.

For Eamon, it’s about a clear idea, thoughtfully realised, that brings life and meaning to a place where it may not have existed before.

That sense of discovery is what makes the work engaging and endlessly exciting.

TRCB30 – Scotch College, Campus Architects
For more than 25 years, TRCB has helped shape the evolving campus of one of Western Australia’s leading independent schools. Appointed as Campus Architects in 1998, our first commission was to undertake a comprehensive audit of the existing campus and develop a masterplan to guide Scotch College’s growth over the next 30 years. Since then, the masterplan has been refreshed in 2016 and 2021, ensuring the campus continues to respond to changing educational needs while respecting its rich heritage and established character.

Our long-standing relationship with Scotch College is built on trust, collaboration and a shared commitment to educational excellence. Working closely with the College over multiple decades has enabled a thoughtful and consistent approach to campus planning, with each new project contributing to a cohesive vision.

Across this enduring partnership, TRCB has delivered a diverse portfolio of projects, including the Keys House Boarding Village, the Dickinson Centre (performing arts and gymnasium), Science, Design and Technology Centre, Junior School Multipurpose Hall, Middle School Learning Facilities, Mathematics and Commerce Building, playground upgrades, and the restoration and renewal of iconic buildings including Memorial Hall, the Gooch Pavilion and the College Chapel.

Thank you Minister John Carey for officially opening our studio and for your support. It was a fun evening to celebrate with our team, collaborators, colleagues, clients and friends.

It's a real honour to launch the new offices for the Architecture firm TRCB right in the heart of the city on William Street.

TRCB is WA's number one architectural practice and at their heart put civic and public space design at the forefront of what they do.

Huge congratulations on 30 years of practice and thank you for making a more liveablle, well designed city!
