UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL 🌿

Our koalas undergo regular health checks to ensure they are fit, happy and healthy... but sometimes luring them down from their breakfast can be tricky!

That's where people like Wayne come in!

Wayne is one of the awesome team of Port Tree Fella's arborists that work with us at KCA, helping us ensure the health of our trees... and sometimes, just sometimes, helping us bring in koalas for their health checks! 🐨💚

Our climbers love a challenge. We were called by Landcare to see if we could rebuild an Osprey nest that had been blown out. James our head climber had created the original nest 8 years ago.

Here he is again at around 25 metres rebuilding the nest with the mother watching. Soon after installing around 50 cable tied sections the family of 4 started moving back in.

We are so lucky to be living and working in this area.

Went back to Tree School for ISA examination. Surprised that I can still remember all those big words.

The crew called in to assess a dangerous 30m Bollygum in Sea Acres Rainforest Centre. On 22 degree lean, root plate lifting, roots in tension cracked and connected canopy full of vine. 2 days removing newly constructed boardwalk and disconnecting canopy.
Felled with precision- all understory Palms were retained. Good job boys!!.
Now the rainforest will quickly eat up the tree, decomposing the vegetation and new trees will emerge from the new light.

The day we had 400 staff !!.
Really good experience replanting 100s of koala food trees at Tacking Point School.

The removal of hazardous Banksias along boundary was a difficult decision. We were able to work with the school to educate the kids on koala preservation and give some ownership and understanding in replanting trees.

Scott from Port Macquarie Koala Hospital gave a great talk about koala preservation and helped with the plantings.

All went to plan including talking the principal into wearing koala suit.

250 trees and shrubs planted, 20m3 sandy loam soil, 40m3 woodchip spread and watered in.

Had a visitor to the worksite today. Tacking Point School where we are removing senescent Banksias and replanting a whole embankment of Koala food trees. The kids are going to assist in replanting over 100 Tallowoods, Greygum ,Swamp mahogany and be taught about koala conservation.
Think this young mum and Joey wanted an early look at the new area for them.
