Another successful kitchen modification to suit a new dishwasher.

This one was pleasing as with a little juggling I managed to fit an extra drawer underneath the dishwasher.

This also showcases the option to avoid the extra fee from the electrician by utilising a cable entry to allow the power to be connected from above the counter top.

This project represents the ongoing innovation that happens when you specialise in a specific solution.

Here we have several issues being solved. Finding replacement gas ovens where electric are becoming dominant limits the choices.

To fill the larger alcoves left by older technology remains a big part of my responsibility.

Matching the aesthetics of the oven rather than the kitchen makes it easier to find an economical solution without the complexity of trying to source or match obsolete cabinet textures and colours.

This project used both stainless steel and gloss black acrylic to accentuate the appliances aesthetics.

One of my favourite things to do is retro fit dishwashers in kitchens that weren't originally designed for them. Not just because I have a successful and polished method for achieving it but because of how greatful my clients are to have it done.

In this case the "soon to be mum" was delighted with the prospect that the time a dishwasher potentially saves could be directed more appropriately on her family.

Taller modern fridges are a frustrating hurdle home owners struggle with when the inevitable failure of their beloved appliance gives up the ghost.

To avoid the struggle of finding new doors to match the old ones I carefully cut along precise lines to hide the joins as best I can as I resize the cabinetry. The result speaks for itself. Take the time to expand the close-up photo for an appreciation of the finer details.

If the doors do not have a pattern to them the process is a little easier as I cut the excess from thd top of the doors and re hinge them to suit the adjusted cabinet. The "raw" edge at the top is well hidden and doesn't compromise the aesthetics nor robustness of the final result.

Typically it's rare to be able to replace these 900mm wide x 450mm high with a modern appliance as the new ones are generally taller(600mm)

It's a little problematic with gas cooktops to fit a drawer underneath due to gas lines being in the way but in this case there was enough room. The black spacer at the top was 50mm giving the nessesary clearance and the drawer was 140mm high.

The customer was delighted with the end result.

Another very appreciative client.

They chose to keep the existing microwave and match it with this black one.

The challenge with this one was removing the existing Gyprock and timber frame and achieving hiding the twist in the existing wall with my frame.

The black handles supplied by FHS complemented the glossy black drawers too.

I'm a little disappointed that the photos didn't look as good as this did in real life but the end result of this one was a real delight for me and the very grateful client.

The 4 main co considerations when allowing for these kinds of installations are aesthetics, ergonomics, economics and function.

This one hit it out of the park on all fronts. It was particularly important to keep the oven at the lower height for the elegantly matured cook which is why the storage at the top was chosen.

This was a particularly pleasing result for a very grateful and delightful client.

30 plus years in people's homes I have been fortunate that this is the first time I've been bitten by a clients dog.

There have been many close calls and I've had plenty of animals barking incessantly at me while undertaking my work or under my feet creating unnecessary hazards.

Please please please concider the tension for both your animal and visiting trades and keep your pet safely out of the way.

We do love animals but for the most part we are trying to provide a service as efficiently as we can, and no matter how safe you think your beloved pet is they can react quite unpredictably with unfamiliar people and machinery sounds that come with the territory.

It's an absolute delight to do what I do. This client was amazed with the process. The alcove I created under this oven fitted perfectly with no measurements sent my way. It was planned entirely from the first photo and solved in my usual timely manner.

The experience I've gained over the years has accumulated a knowledge that makes it possible to solve these things with very little fuss. Some people see it more clearly than others.

This guy was astonished and delighted with the process and the final result.

It is extremely rewarding to me when the thought I've put into what I do is appreciated as much as it was today.

Further experimentation with a combination of black and stainless steel to compliment a white oven. I'm avoiding up until now the temptation to order white frames and panels to compliment white appliances.

White you'd think is fairly generic but is by far the hardest colour to match. I doubt I'll have the courage to commit to pre ordering the white components as the cost versus returns for the cost of materials doesn't add up for the rare occasion white appliances are installed.

Fortunately this client was delighted with this result.

The replacement 900mm wide ovens are now 600mm high. This means the loss of a drawer in this case. I also fitted a stainless steel strip on the top an bottom of the new appliance to give the illusion that the new oven fills the entire space.

I've been developing the oven surrounds for many years. The dimensions are very precise in order to easily solve most situations where the old oven leaves a gap to fill. Every now and again the frame is too small to cover effectively so I need to add another complexity to the solution.

In this case I'm showing off two new elements that have not been explored in the past. I've chosen a black frame to contrast against the white oven instead of my usual stainless steel solution.

Secondly I've used a stainless steel trim on the bottom to cover the larger than usual gap left by the old oven. This coordinates nicely with the silver handles and ties all the elements together.

My terrific clients were very appreciative and I am pleased with the result.
