Plant of the day: Banksia occidentalis, 'red swamp banksia'.

Banksia occidentalis is valued for it's striking flowers, ecological role in supporting pollinators, and suitability for low-maintenance coastal gardens!

This species is endemic to southwestern Australia.

Specs:
- Height 7m, Width 5m (max)
- full sun to part shade
- tolerates salt exposure
- prolific flowering
- windbreak, hedge, screening
- fast growing

Plant of the day: Society Garlic (Tulbaghia violacea)

A cottage garden favourite with grassy foliage, stunning lilac flowers on tall stems.

Origin: Southern Africa

Fun fact: it is called 'society' garlic because it was believed to provide a garlic flavour to food without causing the offensive, lasting bad breath associated with traditional garlic, making it more 'sociable'.

The leaves and flowers are edible, often substituted for chives or garlic.

Specs:
- low maintenance, drought-tolerant
- non-aggressive, clumping plant that spreads slowly (non-invasive)
- full sun
- Height- 30cm-60cm, Spread 20cm-40cm

A small compact shrub growing to less than 1 metre, with a spread of approx 1.5 metre.

Frost hardy and drought resistent.

A hardy Australian native perennial known for it's striking golden spherical flowers and adaptability to various soil types.

Attracts bees, butterflies, and other beneficial insects πŸ‘Œ.

Specs:
- clumping, silvery-green wooly leaves. Height to 70cm.
- flowers spring-summer
- adaptable to various soil types
- drought-tolerant once established
- full sun to part shade
- frost hardy
- excellent for cut flower arrangenents

Plant of the day: Westringia Fruticosa or 'coastal rosemary'

Native to coastal NSW, this shrub is tough enough to grow on cliffs right next to the ocean πŸ‘Œ.

Can be clipped as a hedge or used as a windbreak. This shrub will attract small birds and beneficial insects to the garden.

Specs:
- Height 2m, Width 4m (untrimmed)
- full sun, but will tolerate part shade
- tolerates dry periods and light frosts
- salt and wind tolerant

Great for exposed sites!

Plant of the day: Ficinia nodosa or 'knobby club-rush'

This grass-like sedge is a hardy perenial found widespread across the southern hemisphere!

Ficinia nodosa thrives in sandy, alkaline soils but is highly adaptable, growing in environments ranging from coastal sand dunes to alpine regions.

Specs:
- extremely hardy, low maintenance
- height, width: approx. 1m x 1m
- great for coastal landscaping or sand binding
- loves boggy areas
- withstands harsh coastal winds

Great versatility!
