Grevilleas aren’t just stunning – they’re a feast for the eyes and for wildlife. With over 350 species, these hardy natives come in every colour from soft pastels to fiery reds, and flower for much of the year.

🌿 Fun facts:
✅ Nectar-rich blooms attract honeyeaters, lorikeets, and native bees
✅ Drought-tolerant and thrive in poor soils once established
✅ Excellent for creating bird-friendly screening or hedges
✅ Flowers range from tiny spider forms to big, bold toothbrush shapes

🌺 Indigenous uses:
First Nations peoples traditionally enjoyed the sweet nectar straight from the flowers or by soaking them in water to make a refreshing, honey-like drink (often called “bush cordial”). This was a natural energy boost long before sports drinks came along.

💡 Tip: Avoid fertilisers high in phosphorus – Grevilleas prefer low-phos native plant food.

One of my favourite tricks for healthy, low-maintenance gardens is laying a thick layer of newspaper or cardboard under sugar cane mulch.
✅ Suppresses weeds naturally
✅ Keeps moisture in the soil (less watering!)
✅ Adds organic matter as it breaks down
✅ Protects plant roots from temperature extremes

It’s simple, effective, and makes your garden look instantly neater.
