Given the lettuce panic at the shops I thought I'd let you know that lettuce is massively easy to grow. Cos or oakleaf lettuce is better than headed varieties (like iceburg) - heaps less pest damage. Cos lettuce will grow right through winter in Melb, in pretty much any container and any decent quality soil. Give it a go. If you're in need of seed shoot me a dm and I'll see what I can rustle up for you.

Other greens that grow all winter: Silverbeet, rocket, kale and there are plenty more. I just harvest the outer leaves as I need them.
