We have all had door snakes. Most Australian houses have had at least one door snake at some point. They tend to appear in winter, full of promise, like a little fabric sausage sent to save the household from the cold.

Sometimes they are homemade. Sometimes they are from the hardware store. Sometimes they are vaguely decorative and match the curtains. Sometimes they are deeply ugly, but have been in the family so long nobody has the heart to get rid of them.

And look, we are not here to start a fight with your door snake.  If you love it, keep it. Give it a name. Let it have its moment. But please don’t ask it to do the job of a proper door seal.

It's a bit unfair. A door snake can help with one very specific problem. If cold air is coming directly under the bottom of the door, and the door snake is sitting neatly in exactly the right spot, and nobody opens the door, and the floor is nice and even, and the snake is plump enough to cover the gap, then yes, it can help.

A bit. For a while. Under the door. And that last bit is the problem. Give it a hand: www.ecomaster.com.au/do-door-snakes-actually-work/

There are simple checks that help you choose the right draught proofing solution the first time. 👆

Before you buy a door seal, please do one thing. Please do not guess. We know. Very bossy of us. 🙏

But door gaps can look simple from across the room and then turn into a full-blown mystery once you get up close.  A door might be tight at the top, gappy at the bottom, wider on the latch side, weird near the hinge, and doing something completely unhelpful in the bottom corner.

Which is exactly why one-size-fits-all door sealing so often becomes one-size-fits-nothing.

So before you buy a door seal, grab a ruler, a torch and your phone.  Your door is about to tell you what it needs. Find out more about How to Measure Your Door Gaps Before Buying a Door Seal here https://www.ecomaster.com.au/how-to-measure-door-gaps/

How many things can I guess about your doors without seeing them? Let'see..

20+ years of draught proofing have taught us a few things. One of the most valuable, yet incredibly underestimated, is the fact that there's no universal solution to fix a door. That might sound like a disappointment, I get it.

While I agree that having a one quick seal for all does indeed sound attractive, that would imply that each and every door has the same gaps and problems. Unrealistic.

Tapes and strips are really quick, easy to fit and cheap.  They might be a good fix for a short period, after which they start to peel off and loose their original shape with time and heat. At times they can make doors harder to open or close, or they seem to not stop all the air coming through.

This is because they're often developed to fit an ideal situation where the gaps around your doors are all exactly equal and even, but if you look closely at your door gaps, they won't look very even.
If the seal you're using has been designed for an "ideal" gap... well, it may not be the best solution for all of them.

That's why we've created a wide range of door seal kits. Each door is different, and they all require a specific solution that can adapt to the different ways a door can "move" with time.

We understand that there our products can feel like a bigger investment, comparatively. Yes, they're  never going to be $10. The variety and durablilty of materials they're made of cannot allow that.

You also won't need to buy a replacement every 6 months, and their benefits will be ongoing. You'll get an Australian made and designed kit that will seamlessly blend with your doors and last and perform for years. Despite the 10 years warranty period, mine are still going strong after 20!

🔮 Tell me how your window opens and I'll tell you who you are. 🔮

No, not quite.

If you tell us about your window we cannot say much about your personality, but we can surely tell how you can keep warm this winter.

While we're always very specific when we name each and all kinds of windows, we understand that not everyone might have the same background. So we came up with Know Your Window: The No-Judgement Guide to Identifying and Dealing with YOUR Windows.
With this guide you should be able to determine what you can do to fix your window in three simple steps: looking at a) how it opens, b) what's the frame is made out of, and c) why should you do something about it even if they "seem fine".

Last but not least, suggestions about other things to take into account, such as window coverings and more. real all about it: https://www.ecomaster.com.au/know-your-window/

Awning (top-hinged) and casement (side-hinged) windows are usually the “good kids” of the window world. They open wide, latch shut, and behave beautifully for years.

Then one day… they don’t. A faint, whistle. A cold breeze. A rattle when the wind picks up. Or that classic feeling of your heater working hard while the room stays suspiciously the same.

If on the plus side you almost never need to replace these windows, you do need to seal them the right way; because they don’t respond well to the “slap-on foam tape and hope” approach. Sorry.

Awning and casement windows are compression windows. When you close and latch them, the sash should squeeze against the frame all the way around. Awning (top-hinged) windows, praticularly, tend to develop quite uneven gaps around their edges, so a single dimension foam strip just won’t seal them effectively. It’s almost always around the opening sash.

While they undoubtely bring character in your home, timber frames mean that things move over time and gaps become uneven. When your gaps are uneven (tight in one spot, wider in another), most generic weather stripping fails. For more than one reason.

Today's article goes into detail about why it fails and how to seal them effectively without making them hard to close properly. Time to make your windows as good as new, with the right seals!: https://www.ecomaster.com.au/weather-stripping-windows/
