Barossa Straw Bale House
This strawbale home designed in the town of Tanunda is in a historic precinct. The main housing types include "Bungalows". The design concept was to mimic the roof and gable treatment for the front elevation. House orientation - not perfect north - but the main living and outdoor living areas face north.
For contrast the Garage was clad in a weatherboard.
This house was designed in 2019 and was designed as an all electric house. Solar panels, heat pump used to cut power bills.

Strawbale House nearing completion.
Just a couple of kilometres from the Goolwa this new build is reaching completion. Lance Kairl has done a craftsman like job with the build and the rendering. The use of "Weathertex" natural finish and colorbond corrugated cladding adds an interest to the Elevations. Pergola is now ready for some deciduous plants to protect the north facing windows in the summer and to let in the winter sun. Internally recycled cupboards make a fresh look to the Kitchen. Rainwater tanks were a requirement for bushfire fighting.

Strawbale house & details
Here in SA along with House of Bales Lance Kairl (and engineer Gerald Wittmann) we have created a new open plan living area with some interesting details.
Firstly with a high pitched ceiling we were able to include a mezzanine floor - access to a platform where an opening roof window allows for viewing the stars as well as "venting hot air during the warmer days.'
Secondly a clever way to get extra storage - why not build a window box? and use to as a seat.

Gymnasiums Openings
Following election promises the government delivered on their promises. We were architects for two of the gymnasiums. The schools invited architects and the builders "Harold & Kite" and Fusco" who did a great job finishing the construction on time.

Recently we were invited to the opening of the 2 gymnasiums that we had worked on for two primary schools. To open the gymnasiums to the exciting students was the Minister of Education Blair Boyer, representatives from the Department for Education as well as School Staff and School Council members and local politicians . Students congregated in the gyms and during their speeches said how excited they were to finally have a gym. The gyms will be used for sports, assemblies, end of year functions as well student performances.

Holiday House by the river
This is a new design that we're working on.
Construction is:
1. Well insulated (R4.5) timber frame and double glazed windows.
2. Mono pitched roof with a "Surfmist" roof sheeting for reflectivity
3. Insulated ceiling space (R6).
4. Rain Water Tanks and solar panels and battery (not shown)

Will soon be lodging for approval.

School Gymnasium near completion.

Straw Bale House update
House has now had the timber framing completed and certified. And the external skin of thick and insulating strawbale finished. Lime render has also been applied to the walls. Good construction seen here with the roof water being discharged away from the building. Beautiful high level ceilings will give this living space a great feeling incorporating a mezzanine level. Again Lance and Scott have done a great job. Looking forward to second coat of render and windows and doors fixed.
