Winwood McKenzie Architecture, an award-winning architecture practice recognized for its approach to sustainable design and adaptive re-use, proudly announces its evolution into ARLO - Architecture and Landscape Office. This strategic rebrand marks an exciting new chapter that expands its commitment to sustainable design and introduces integrated landscape services.
Led by architect Thom McKenzie and working with garden designer Ellie Mucke, ARLO builds upon more than a decade of architectural excellence while introducing a holistic approach that strengthens the connection between buildings and their surrounding landscape. The practice continues to serve clients across Central Victoria and Melbourne, with a concentrated focus on sustainable residences, thoughtful renovations, and adaptive reuse projects.
"This evolution to ARLO reflects our expanded vision of creating architecture that seamlessly integrates with its environment," says Thom McKenzie. "By combining architectural and landscape design services, we're better positioned to create comprehensive solutions that enhance both the built and natural environments."
ARLO maintains its strong foundation in sustainable design principles while emphasizing the craft of architecture. The practice specializes in expertly crafted solutions for complex situations, including bushfire-prone areas, Passive House, and heritage building renovations. Their approach focuses on the resourceful use of materials and construction techniques to create sustainable, healthy, and durable architecture.
Since in 2011, ARLO has built a strong reputation in Central Victoria and Melbourne, working on a broad range of projects, from residential renovations to new residences, theatres, and hotels. The firm is currently engaged in renovations, new build apartments and hotels in Australia and Indonesia.
