AN IMPORTANT MILESTONE FOR JARMO CARPENTRY

JARMO Carpentry is now operating under NSW Contractor Licence No. 501550C.

I have been building this business around full-time work, family life and ongoing training, one job and one satisfied client at a time. Receiving my contractor licence is an important step in growing JARMO properly and giving clients confidence in who they are engaging.

The approach remains the same: honest communication, careful preparation and quality workmanship.

If you have a carpentry job in mind, send through a short description, your suburb and a few clear photos to get the conversation started.

WEDNESDAY CARPENTRY TIP: WHAT’S UNDER YOUR DECK MATTERS

A good-looking deck still needs the space underneath it to manage moisture properly.

Poor drainage, trapped leaves, soil sitting too close to the framing and restricted airflow can keep the subfloor damp. Over time, that can contribute to timber movement, corrosion around fixings and premature deterioration.

When planning or inspecting a deck, it’s worth considering:

- Where rainwater will drain
- Whether air can move beneath the deck
- Clearance between timber framing and the ground
- Keeping garden beds, soil and debris away from the subfloor
- Protecting the tops of joists and exposed cut ends

The decking boards are what you see, but the subfloor and the conditions beneath it play a big part in how well the deck performs over time.

Planning a new deck or concerned about an existing one? Send JARMO Carpentry a few clear photos, your suburb and a short description.

BEHIND JARMO: BUILT AFTER HOURS AND GROWING ONE PROJECT AT A TIME

JARMO Carpentry is being built alongside a full-time job, family life and continued study—not because carpentry is something new, but because building a business properly takes time.

Behind the name is a trade-qualified carpenter, a completed apprenticeship, experience across residential and commercial construction, and the discipline that comes from military service.

For now, weekday afternoons are used for inspections, measurements and quoting, with most project work completed on weekends. Every enquiry, quote and completed job is another step toward growing JARMO into a sustainable full-time carpentry business.

The aim is straightforward: communicate clearly, turn up when agreed and deliver quality work that customers are happy to recommend.

Thanks to everyone who has followed the page, shared a post, sent an enquiry or trusted JARMO Carpentry with a job so far. It genuinely helps a local startup gain momentum.

Trade qualified. Veteran owned. Quality workmanship. Reliable service.

WEDNESDAY CARPENTRY TIP: BEFORE YOU PLANE A STICKING DOOR, CHECK WHY IT’S STICKING

A door that suddenly starts catching, dragging or becoming difficult to latch doesn’t always need timber removed from the edge.

The cause could be:

• Loose hinges or screws that are no longer holding properly
• Seasonal swelling caused by moisture or humidity
• Movement in the door, jamb or surrounding structure
• Paint build-up around the edge
• A damaged frame or signs of water getting where it shouldn’t

Planing may create clearance, but if the underlying problem isn’t corrected first, the door can continue moving or be left with an excessive gap when conditions change.

Check the simple causes first, then repair or adjust the door to suit what is actually happening.

Have a door that won’t close, latch or operate properly? Send JARMO Carpentry a few clear photos, your suburb and a short description of the problem.

SPRING IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER—HOW’S YOUR OUTDOOR TIMBER HOLDING UP?

Winter weather can expose the small problems that are easy to overlook until they become bigger repairs.

It’s worth checking for:

• Gates that drag, sag or no longer latch properly
• Loose, weathered or damaged deck boards
• Movement in steps and handrails
• Split or deteriorating timber around pergolas and outdoor structures
• Fixings that are loose, rusted or pulling away

Taking care of those smaller maintenance jobs now can help get your outdoor areas ready for spring and prevent further damage.

If you’ve noticed something that needs attention, send JARMO Carpentry a few clear photos, your suburb and a short description of the job. I’ll have a look and let you know whether it’s something I can help with.

WEDNESDAY CARPENTRY TIP: DON’T IGNORE THE EARLY SIGNS OF TIMBER DAMAGE

Soft spots, peeling paint, dark staining, loose boards or timber that feels spongy can all point to moisture getting where it shouldn’t. Left alone, a small repair can turn into a much bigger job.

It’s worth checking the areas around:
• External doors and windows
• Deck boards, stairs and handrails
• Fascias and exposed trim
• Pergolas, gates and fence posts
• Wet areas and plumbing penetrations

Catching the problem early usually means a simpler, more affordable repair—and helps protect the surrounding structure.

Not sure what you’re looking at? Send JARMO Carpentry a few clear photos, your suburb and a short description. I’ll let you know whether it’s something I can help with.

GOT A SMALL CARPENTRY JOB THAT KEEPS GETTING PUT OFF?

Not every carpentry job needs to be a major renovation.

Sometimes it's the smaller jobs around the house that need attention:-
A door that isn't closing properly
Damaged timber
Deck repairs or maintenance
Skirting or architraves that need replacing
A gate that needs fixing
Or those unfinished jobs that have been sitting on the list for months.

JARMO Carpentry is happy to take on smaller residential carpentry, repair and maintenance jobs as well as larger projects.

If you've got something that needs doing, send me a message with a couple of photos and a brief description of the job. I'll have a look and let you know if it's something I can help with.
