Coastal Gardens: Designing with Salt, Wind + Sea

What makes a coastal garden different?

1. Led by the Senses
Wind, salt and shifting light shape everything. It’s a landscape you feel as much as you see.

2. Always Evolving
Nothing stays still out there. Seasonal, dynamic, a little wild, and all the better for it.

3. Resilient and Relaxed
Hardy planting, layered and an easy, lived-in feel make these spaces as practical as they are beautiful.

The perfect seat for savouring every last drop of that golden autumn light.

There’s something magical about a steep block and a multi layered garden. Framing the borrowed landscape and creating the ultimate spot to sit back and take it all in.

Rock is one of our most versatile tools. It adds weight and structure to soft planting, while also serving a purpose. From informal seating, bird baths, pathways or within gabion walls.

Why Natural Doesn’t Mean Untamed

Working with nature doesn’t mean letting things run wild. It’s about creating gardens that feel relaxed, resilient and connected to their surroundings - without losing structure.

Naturalistic spaces can be both easygoing and refined. Read more of our article via link in bio.

Our Portsea garden flows seamlessly into its natural surroundings, framed by the existing Modernist architecture. Large concrete steppers lead through a courtyard of bold Agaves and Enchinocactus and softer Westringina and Callistemon. At the rear, native and exotic plants mingle, from Agave Americana to Correa, Bronze Phormium and Dwarf Banksia - all planted with care by our horticulture team.

Meet the show-stopper!
Bartlettina sordida (Purple Torch) shining proudly in our Pevensey project, beautifully captured by Madeleine Burke.

This lush evergreen shrub brings bold textures with its large veined leaves and purple blooms held together on purple-red stems.
