Helping everyone stay safe: Escape. Hide. Tell.

Although Australia is a safe country, armed attacks can happen, and we need to do what we can to help prevent and prepare for them.

This advice is being provided so you are prepared if there is an incident, not because we are expecting one. The messaging provides simple and practical steps for people to follow in the event of an armed attack:

ESCAPE — move away from danger as quickly and quietly as possible and encourage others to do the same, but only if it's safe to do so.
HIDE — stay out of sight and silence your mobile phone.
TELL — call Emergency Services on Triple Zero (000) when it is safe.

By familiarising yourself with Escape. Hide. Tell. you will be better prepared to help protect yourself and others in an emergency – wherever you are.

VIC - Tough New Retail Crime Laws Pass Parliament

Abusing shop assistants, assaulting retail workers and security staff, threatening rideshare drivers and even throwing coffee at waiters will now mean serious consequences under new laws passed by the Victorian Government. The Crimes Amendment (Retail, Fast Food, Hospitality and Transport Worker Harm) Act 2025 creates new offences to crack down on abuse, threats and assaults against customer-facing workers - from retail and hospitality staff to security, cleaners, delivery riders, taxi and rideshare drivers, public transport operators and even contractors working on-site. The laws which will be in place ahead of the busy Christmas season, include a serious new indictable offence will apply to anyone who assaults or threatens to assault a retail, fast food, hospitality or transport worker. Those charged face up to five years’ imprisonment under this offence.

Separate summary offences will also apply for lower-level assaults and threatening or intimidating conduct – including profane, obscene or insulting language – with penalties of up to six months’ jail. These offences have a lower threshold to give police a flexible range of options to intervene early and protect workers.

ASIAL has long advocated for greater protection of frontline security personnel and has welcomed the announcement.

MORNINGTON PENINSULA CCTV REGISTER!

Police Stations across the Mornington Peninsula would like to connect with community to broaden our ability to solve local crime through residential and commercial CCTV.

With a strong victim-centric focus on policing we want to leverage off existing technology to improve our response and add to our toolkit of crime prevention options within the Mornington Peninsula.

Working with our community will enhance our ability to not only solve but prevent crime and reduce harm to the community by working together.

This is how it would work👇

• Residents of the Mornington Peninsula Community contact your local Police Station via phone or email and make them aware of any CCTV you may have at home or work.
• Any CCTV that is covering driveways, front yards, street, rear laneways etc. Security doorbells that activate when pressed would also be useful.
• Police record that information on a secure database.
• When a crime occurs within the community, police can refer to the database to see if there is any CCTV in and around the location of the offence.
• Police would then contact the resident to see if any footage can be located and would be perused to ascertain if it is of benefit to an investigation.

If you would like to add your CCTV details to the police database then please email the following email address, with the following details:

[email protected]

• Name and contact details
• Location of the camera- area of view
• Storage life of the footage

On behalf of the Mornington Peninsula Local Area Command, we thank you for assisting with community safety. 😀
