We have some really nice Fuerte trees here in stock ! Ready for planting $95
Checked out our own trees here on the block and they've got a fair few avocados on them. ( fruit pictured) Might be time to pick one, wait for it to ripen and see if they are ready. If they are too watery- leave on tree longer as oils need to develop.
Fuerte is a delicious buttery avocado that is pear shaped with a smooth peeling skin. Originating from Mexico, it was brought to California by an avid plant collector who then cultivated it and a few other varieties. After a severe cold snap, Fuerte (translates to ‘Strong’ in Spanish) was named and selected as it was the lone survivor, still standing strong, where all the others had died. Thus spawning commercial Avocado production in Southern California, ( which, since then, has been taken over by Hass variety for its superior shipping qualities.
There are still many Fuerte Avocado trees in the back yards of Suburban houses, that were once these original Groves that still have the original Fuerte Trees, cropping beautifully every year. The tree itself is a spreading tree that can grow up to 10 metres over a 30 year period. As mentioned above, Fuerte can withstand very cold, frost conditions.
You can keep your tree a lot smaller 3-4m - for better fruit production and tree health and fruit within reach.
