There’s something pretty special about seeing a craftsman finally get the chance to build exactly what he wants.

Shaun and Tegan’s dream country cabin is packed with incredible details, from the timber Shaun milled himself to the huge live-edge slabs, exposed framing, stone finishes and beautifully crafted furniture.

Around 40 logs that were destined to be burned were rescued and transformed into this incredible home, and somehow, despite looking completely settled into the landscape, the whole cabin can still be separated into sections and transported to a new site!

This is so much more than just carpentry. It’s what happens when skill, creativity and a genuine love for the craft all come together.

Ryan and Lorena are raising their family of four in this beautiful little off-grid container home on two acres in Queensland, Australia.

At first, the idea sounds almost impossibly small. But what they’ve created here is really about something much bigger than the house itself.

By downsizing, living simply and becoming mortgage-free, Ryan and Lorena have been able to step away from full-time work and spend more time with their children. Instead of pouring all their money and energy into a larger home, they’ve chosen more freedom, more time together and a life that feels wonderfully connected to the land around them.

The 20ft container home is compact, but it’s warm, beautifully finished and thoughtfully designed, while the deck, outdoor living spaces and surrounding property allow family life to extend far beyond its walls.

Elly and Charlie wanted a tiny home that felt completely their own, and they were not afraid to make some bold design choices.

Curves shape the roofline, ceiling and staircase, while warm timbers, handcrafted finishes and a striking Venetian plaster splashback give the interior a strong artistic character. The home also features a huge kitchen, spacious loft and a separate amenities building for the bathroom and laundry.

A large covered deck, solar power, tank water and productive gardens help extend daily life outdoors and support their off-grid lifestyle in New South Wales.

Polly’s shed house is absolutely bursting with personality! 💗

After selling her much larger home, Polly downsized into this wonderfully colourful 88m² shed house on a shared property with her son and daughter-in-law. Their homes are only a few steps apart, creating a beautiful multigenerational living setup while still giving everyone their own space. The move also allowed Polly to become mortgage-free and help her son with his mortgage.

Inside, this home is a celebration of everything Polly loves. There’s a beautiful pink kitchen, an enormous Pop Vinyl collection, a home cinema complete with a popcorn machine, a dedicated craft room and some truly incredible spaces designed for her cats.

And these cats are living very well! They have a huge enclosed catio, custom climbing walls and play areas throughout the home. Polly even built her own bed to match theirs. 😆

This place is a total hodgepodge, and we mean that in the best possible way!

Kerry and Will’s tiny house started life as an old single-wide cabin and has been brought back to life with reclaimed timber, vintage cupboards, stained glass, salvaged flooring and all kinds of clever secondhand finds.

It’s a little crooked, nothing quite matches, and there’s personality everywhere you look. But somehow, it all comes together beautifully.

Some homes are designed to shelter us from nature. This remarkable hempcrete home was designed to bring people back into relationship with it.

Eight years after our first visit, we return to Michael and Tiffany’s beautiful property to see how their vision has grown into an inspiring multigenerational homestead centred around healthy building, thoughtful architecture and regenerative living.

Designed by architect Michael Leung, this beautiful small home uses hempcrete, recycled materials and passive solar design to create a healthy living environment that works in harmony with nature. It’s a wonderful reminder that the homes we build can be beautiful, sustainable and genuinely good for the people who live in them.

Alex and Harrison built their very first home while balancing work, study and life together, and the result is something truly special.

Their DIY tiny house is beautifully designed, tucked into the bush and filled with clever details, but what makes this story so inspiring is what the home has given them. By building young, they’ve been able to start life as homeowners before ever needing to enter the rental market.

John is a builder who has given great consideration to the construction of his container home. From the spacious layout, the cleverly welded bump outs and even the special flashing system he designed for the windows, there's a tremendous amount of innovation in this home, even if a lot of it is hidden in the details.
