Out in the sprawling new suburbs at Willowdale in Sydney’s south west, great to see some well-judged public architecture.
Actually quite small group of sports facilities, brought together by a generous over-sailing red roof, transparent screens & red brick bleachers to give it scale in the wide landscape of the playing fields & playground.
Great work Sam Crawford Architects

Vale Michael Dysart (1934-2026) - long a leading Sydney architect, leaving us with some marvellous projects.
Here seen at Unbuilt Exhibition opening @ Museum of Sydney, his East Circular Quay scheme behind.
His extraordinary interiors at UTS (we can agree tower above not great) are amongst Sydney’s most majestic civic halls.

New perspectives of our DA approved Community Rowing Club Sydney - a community rowing club designed for people of all abilities.
Central civic rowing club form, boats downstairs, change & facilities upstairs, joined by a transparent mesh ramp & stairs.
Two ramps to the pontoon, one for the public & disabled.
Fundraising underway, hopefully to progrèss soon to CC, then construction.

Fantastic day teaching , discussing more than 40 Library precedents, in drawings & models, all at 1:200 scale.
Understanding the site, the architectural intentions, changes in libraries over time, from precious closed antecedents to today’s open community public buildings.
Bravo students! 12 very happy tutors too!

Quirky 1960’s .
Bayview perched in behind Bondi, actually to Rose Bay.
Stepping up the slope, elevated on shapely blades, thin section, generous 2 terrazzo & timber stairs serving 3 apartments/ floor, good plans, some fine if fragile details.
The funkiest stump column for its letterboxes!
Anyone know the architect?

The DA for our Affordable Housing project now lodged.
Located in Glenfield in a new neighbourhood we have laid out in Sydney’s west, this first stage of the project will deliver 120 apartments, run by a Community Housing Provider (CHP).
On a new green street linking new park to main line station, with generous landscape & communal areas throughout, a great place for future affordable homes.

The entry courtyard at apartments at Little Bay taking shape!
Our design aligns the courtyard to open east to the blue horizon & west to an existing street, gathering the building entries, which are articulated by tall stair voids.
Groves of endemic banksias & pathways still to come - a memorable shared experience of homecoming.

🙏 to all involved Alexander Rink Brett Sperling Madeleine Rowe, the client team Urban Property Group,

In the heart of Parramatta, the new Powerhouse getting ready to go.
Its size & architectural scale of somewhat caricatural crisscross structure over its 2 primary volumes differentiate it from the sprouting black glass towers mushrooming all about.
But its public way through middle looks tight, doesn’t connect to the river as generously as it could have.

Elsewhere action a plenty in , old & new. Such public investment everywhere to be seen; the stadium, council & library at Phive at Parramatta Square, the refurbished Town Hall next to tranquil historic St John’s church, the bustle of Church St with the tram & the metro to come
