A new work is underway, this one destined for South Africa and part of the growing garden we have been building beyond Australian shores.

What you are seeing here is only the beginning. The ink has fallen, the groundwork has been laid, and the peonies are beginning to find their shape on the canvas. There is something both strange and extraordinary about watching a work emerge from nothing, a blank surface that slowly, layer by layer, becomes a garden.

This commission is our largest and most personal work for the studio to date. It marks the beginning of something we have been moving towards for a long time.

My favourite part of every work is the brief moment the ink arrives and goes.

It is the most freeing part of the process. There is no hesitation here, the ink falls and the work begins to reveal itself before you’ve had a chance to overthink it. It cannot be corrected, it cannot be undone, and that is exactly what makes it extraordinary. You arrive at the canvas with intention and you let go. What lands is the foundation everything else is built from.

This is where every ROBERTSONKUR work begins. In the dark. In the irreversible. In the moment before the garden grows.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​
