Unsure how to aerate your lawn? One simple way is to push a garden fork into the soil (around 7-10cm), rock it back and forth and then repeat with 20cm spacings. Your lawn won't look great straight away however in a couple of weeks it will have regenerated and be looking healthier then ever.
As,
The soils underneath can become compacted over time, aerating allows sunlight, water and oxygen into the soil.
