We’re pleased to welcome James Perry as Director, Brisbane.

With more than 25 years of experience across mixed-use, cultural, civic and educational architecture, James brings a wealth of design expertise and leadership to the studio. His built works include 77 Market Street and UTS Central, alongside major cultural works such as the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery Redevelopment and the Warships Pavilion.

James Perry and KTA Principal first worked together in the late 1990s at PTW Architects, and later collaborated on international pursuits including a competition-winning project in Japan — a relationship built on shared values and a common design ethos.

James leads our Brisbane team, strengthening our presence in Queensland and supporting a growing international portfolio.

Welcome, James.

Koichi Takada recently spoke with Kazuya Baba for on the importance of the architect's role in creating place for pause, community and of course a way to connect with nature.

Kazuya Baba wrote: "Koichi Takada is one of the most internationally recognised Japanese architects of his generation. Based in Sydney, his practice bridges Japan, Australia and farther afield, mediating between urban density and the natural world. For Australian readers, he reflects on formative moment, why "breathing space" matters in high-density cities, and how design can help us live well amid climate change."

The Saadiyat Island Canopy, designed by Koichi Takada Architects and currently under construction, will provide kilometers of pedestrian walkway to connect the iconic cultural institutions of this tourist destination - including the recently opened Zayed National Museum by Foster + Partners, Gehry Partners’ Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, and Ateliers Jean Nouvel’s Louvre Abu Dhabi.

Offering a specialised cooling system for user comfort, the walkway is shaded by multi-layered, perforated canopies, which provide dappled light and shadow in the daytime and are solar powered to glow in the evening, lighting the pathway to experience Saadiyat’s unique nightlife.
