Most visitors come to Charleston for the food, history and Southern charm.

I apparently came for the columns.

“Doric!”
“Oh look, Ionic!”
“Wait, is that Corinthian?”

Meanwhile, Gordon patiently waits while I photograph yet another magnificent balcony and become distracted by architectural details from centuries past.

The craftsmanship throughout this city is extraordinary. Beautiful proportions, elegant ironwork, stunning balconies and enough classical influences to make an old Master School student very happy indeed.

As someone passionate about heritage conservation and traditional craftsmanship, it is a joy to see these architectural treasures still admired and cared for today.

Charleston, you’ve stolen a little piece of my heart.

✨ Creating an heirloom, not just an invitation ✨

For our wedding, I wanted to create something that reflected our story and would remain long after the celebrations were over.

Inspired by Early Renaissance art and Tolkien’s Elven world, I hand-painted and gilded an original artwork which became the heart of our wedding invitations and stationery.

The piece incorporated traditional techniques including:

✨ Egg tempera painting with hand-mixed pigments
✨ Genuine water gilding
✨ Burnished gold leaf
✨ Pastiglia relief work
✨ Hand-carved decorative details
✨ Traditional Renaissance-inspired ornamentation

The original painting was then transformed into our invitations before becoming a treasured artwork in our home.

This experience has inspired a new bespoke service for couples who desire something deeply personal, handcrafted and unlike anything available from standard invitation designers.

Every love story is unique. Your invitations can be too.

💍 Bespoke wedding artwork
🎨 Hand-painted commissions
✨ Traditional gilding
📜 Custom invitation design

Enquiries welcome.

What was hiding underneath?

This project involved approximately 60 hours of paint removal before any repairs or gilding could begin.

Layer by layer, later coatings and hardened gesso were carefully reduced to uncover the original ornament beneath.

Restoration often looks glamorous in the final photograph, but the reality is that much of the work happens in the slow, patient stages that nobody sees.

Sometimes the greatest transformation is simply revealing what was already there.

Client confidentiality meant I couldn’t share the original painting…

…so Mona Lisa temporarily stepped in for the restoration reveal. 😄

A recent Louis XV revival frame conservation project involving extensive overpaint removal, repairs, re-gilding, and many careful hours bringing the ornament back to life.

Honestly, Mona seems quite pleased with the outcome. ✨

Our wedding bands were quite a bit of a journey 🌈 from taking a couples jewellery class wax wiring the Celtic pattern, via injecting a wax mould and cleaning that up all the way to get them casted and Julian one of the jeweller’s bringing it all together 💫💍💞

A small project close to the heart.

My fiancé and I recently refreshed the home of a beloved family member, as their family prepares to welcome their second child. We wanted to help create a lighter, more uplifting atmosphere for them. The walls had previously been painted in a grey acrylic paint, which felt quite dark for the space.

We refreshed the rooms with a soft creamy off-white using KEIM Innoprim and Innostar. The colour now sits beautifully with the 70th style ceilings and tiles, creating a calm and warm interior.

What makes this paint particularly suitable for a family home is that it is free from VOCs, solvents, and synthetic additives, completely odourless, and creates a very natural, elegant matte finish. It’s also highly durable and easy to clean - walls can simply be washed with water when everyday life leaves its marks.

Sometimes a simple change of colour with the right paint can completely transform how a space feels. In this case, the result is a much brighter, healthier, and more welcoming home.

Three extraordinary days at the Frames Symposium in Hobart - and what an absolutely fabulous experience it was.
We attended an impressive program of lectures presented by academics and conservation professionals from around the world - including curators from the Louvre and the Rijksmuseum, conservators from London and across Europe, as well as Australia’s leading head conservators. The depth of knowledge shared was truly inspiring.
We were honoured with an invitation to Government House by the Governor, visited Parliament House, and explored two remarkable art museums - each visit adding another layer to the experience.
Beyond the lectures and formal program, what made these days so special was meeting so many passionate professionals across the fields of framing, conservation, gilding, and the arts. Conversations like these remind me how vibrant and interconnected our craft truly is.
I return home deeply inspired and with a greatly expanded understanding of the history, significance, and conservation of frames.

Truly I’m still greatly excited having seen this print of Fra Angelico’s Annunciation a fresco painted in the early Renaissance from 1440 - 1445 in the convent of San Marco in Florence and commissioned by Cosimo de’ Medici ✨ it’s so often those little things people made, sometimes 10th or 100th of years ago the lightens up the day of someone 🌟🌻🌞 in the future 💫 like it inspires me on my journey ☀️

It was a real pleasure introducing KEIM products in a hands-on setting on site, working directly with painters who use these materials in practice 🌱
I’ll be honest - I’ve never been a great sprayer. But the first time spraying with KEIM, I genuinely loved it.

It went on incredibly smoothly, with excellent coverage - and what really surprised me was the lack of overspray. Not a single drop on my clothes or skin. Even better: no smell at all. Everyone worked comfortably without masks, which I’ve honestly never experienced before.

In my 14 years of painting in Australia, I haven’t seen anything quite like this. Trying products properly on site really shows their value.

Finished with one coat of KEIM Innoprim and one coat of Innostar - simple, clean, and done ✅
